I tried using a Zodiac candle to cleanse my home of bad energy and kick-start my spring decluttering with surprising results
This home scenting idea is out of this world

I like to think of myself as a relatively spiritual person, enjoying yoga, meditation and manifestation. I've even used bundles of white sage to cleanse my home.
So, as a home fragrance fanatic, the idea of a cosmically aligned candle to cleanse my home of bad energy was more than enough to pique my interest. Could a candle designed for my birth date become my most transformative home essential?
I tested the Cosmos Within Zodiac Candle and spoke to the founder to discover more about this fresh take on making your home smell nice, and harnessing the candle's power to cleanse the energy of my home this spring.
What does a Zodiac candle do for your home?
Lighting a zodiac candle before doing anything, be it reading, cooking, writing in your journal or cleaning, allows you to connect with your inner self and be mindful to set an intention about your goal. This could be a good way to ground yourself if you're feeling anxious or overwhelmed about cleaning, for example.
Pair your best candle with correct Feng Shui crystal placement and you'll be unstoppable when refreshing the energy of your home.

Available in a different scent for each month of the year, this gorgeous three-wick candle is made of natural ingredients, and handmade in the USA.
For those of us who take heed of astrology and its potential impact on our lives, our Zodiac sign is something that comes into constant consideration. For example, you might keep it in mind when doing a spring home-cleansing ritual or decide to decorate your home according to your Zodiac sign.
But where does choosing the best candles for you and your space fit into it all?
Diego Tomljanović, the creator behind the Cosmos Within candle range and chief astrologer, explains, 'Historically, candles were the only source of illumination within one’s home. Our spirits grew accustomed to the flicker of flame accompanying quiet moments with loved ones, books, meals, or important projects.
'A birthday is the spirit’s new year, a big reset. So, it was only natural to combine the light dear to a human spirit and its cosmically most natural cycle – that one around the Sun.'

I love the personalized touch of my candle, which features unique and original insights into my star sign.
I'm sure it's no surprise that I had to try a custom-scented candle for myself, and I suppose it was inevitable that when it arrived, I fell in love with the warm and woody scent of my December 5th candle immediately.
While these scent notes of palo santo and sage aren't typically associated with making a home smell nice for summer or spring, I'm a big believer in using what makes you feel good when you want to, rather than bowing to scenting trends of florals for spring and spicy gourmands for winter. And, don't forget, I am a winter baby, so it makes sense that my personalized candle matches my birth date.
Other candles from the Cosmos Within Zodiac range closely align with seasonal notes. The June candle features summery notes of Anjou pear and lily, while the August version boasts a zesty scent of mandarin and ylang ylang.
All the candles are made of 100% soy wax, and are free of phthalates, parabens, lead, dyes, and artificial colorants, ideal if you're striving to pick non-toxic candles. The jars, lids and packaging are recyclable, and all the manufacturing is entirely wind-powered. Who said being sustainable at home was difficult?
How to use your Zodiac candle to cleanse your home
Set your intentions to clear the old and welcome in the new.
I wanted to try using this candle to manifest my intentions for spring, and cleanse my home of any bad energy, a common Feng Shui practice, so I checked in with Diego beforehand for his top tips on making the most of mine.
He said, 'Our motto is to embrace your higher self. We believe that is where true manifestation begins. When you understand who you are and align your actions with your soul’s potential, you naturally start calling in what’s meant for you. The Cosmic Birthday Candle helps you on that journey with a scent designed to awaken your core energy, and your astrology reading that connects you to the cosmos.'
For manifestation, Diego advised lighting the candle with clear intention. 'Speak your desires, write them down, or hold them in your heart. The flame rises in the air, aiming for eternity, and when your vision feels the same way, you are on the right path.'
I always light my candle with matches, favoring extra-long ones in gorgeous packaging for display, such as the Archivist Lighthouse Matches available at Anthropologie. Even this simple ritual gave me time to set my intentions, but if you prefer to write them down, you can do so in a manifestation journal, such as the Manifest Book, Law of Attraction Journal available at Etsy.
Use this beautiful A5 journal to keep track of your intentions, with 100 pages to fill.
This handy candle care set includes a wick trimmer, dipper and snuffer, made of durable and corrosion-resistant stainless steel.
Keep this gorgeous matchbox next to your candle collection, to make lighting your candle as enjoyable as burning it.
Then, to cleanse your home, much like when cleansing a house with sage or cleansing your home with salt, Diego suggests using the candle as part of a ritual.
'Open windows, tidy your space, and let the scent move through your home like sacred smoke, resetting the energy. Spring is the season of renewal, and this is your invitation to clear the old and welcome the new.'
Protect your surfaces from heat damage when burning candles with this glazed candle holder, made from 100% terracotta.
My verdict
These candles are worth it just for the luxurious smell alone.
I love the idea of a cosmically aligned candle, and thoroughly enjoyed burning mine to take a minute to manifest. Plus, it's easy. Simply open your windows to let the fresh spring air roll in and let your candle do all the hard word resetting the energy of your home.
I can't say lighting my candle did significantly make the energy in my home feel different, but it did give me the boost I needed to get some seasonal sorting done, as I got stuck into some spring cleaning, vacuuming my living room and taking the time to remove dust. Again, I'm not certain on this candles ability to create good Feng Shui in your home, but lighting it definitely didn't cause any Feng Shui living room mistakes, either.
But, if you're not so convinced about the power manifestation or astrology, rest assured that these luxurious candles smell gorgeous, and make your home smell nice. They also make a stunning and unique gift idea for anyone in your life. It's the perfect way to introduce loved ones to a signature scent for their home.

FAQs
I normally always reuse candle jars around the house, but these ones are good enough for display. Arrange dried flowers, use them for corralling makeup items, or simply style them as DIY decor pieces. Just make sure you know how to get the candle wax out of jars properly before getting started.
