The Dyson Gen5outsize, the best vacuum cleaner Dyson have ever released, is now on offer with $250 off the retail price. The Dyson V12 Detect Slim, the vacuum cleaner I use in my own home which shares many of the Gen5outsize's features, is also on offer at its lowest price ever.

I'm Homes & Gardens' home tech editor, testing, reviewing and covering vacuum cleaners daily. My team of product testers and I have tested 48 of the world's best vacuum cleaners. Many are on sale right now and I can personally vouch for how worth the spend they are.

Best early Black Friday cordless vacuum deals

A Dyson vacuum cleaning carpet.

They're increasingly becoming the standard in most homes, and for good reason. The best cordless vacuums offer the suction power and cleaning capabilities of even some top-end upright vacs, with the flexibility of cordless convenience. Here are some of our favorites, which just happen to be on offer too.

Dyson V12 Detect Slim | was $549, now $399.99 at Dyson (save $150)
Editor's choice

Dyson V12 Detect Slim | was $549, now $399.99 at Dyson (save $150)

One of the very best vacuums we've ever tested, the Dyson V12 Detect Slim is the smaller counterpart to Dyson's flagship vacuums: the V15 Detect and Gen5detect.

It has market-leading suction power, dust detection, responsive power adjustment, and a green laser that illuminates dust that the naked eye can't see. It's also incredibly lightweight and works wonders on all floor types and debris.

From all the vacuums I've tested for H&G, this is the vacuum I use in my own home and the only one I loved enough to keep for my use. It really is incredibly powerful; in the months I've been using it, I've never had to go over the floor twice to vacuum anything.

Dyson Gen5outsize | was $1,049.99, now $749.99 at Dyson (save $250)
Best-in-class

Dyson Gen5outsize | was $1,049.99, now $749.99 at Dyson (save $250)

Put simply – this is the best Dyson vacuum, ever. We've tested the Dyson Gen5detect and, out of the 100+ vacuums our tester had reviewed, it surpassed all of them.

The Gen5outsize is the name for the slightly larger version of the Gen5detect, with a larger dustbin and an extra battery for up to 140 minutes of cleaning between charges. It's essentially the Gen5detect for larger homes.

Whether you're vacuuming pet hair, dust, or large debris – you won't get better than this. It's still expensive at $750, but at least it's cheaper than the usual $1,050.

Dyson V11 Extra | was $599.99, now $399.99 at Dyson (save $200)

Dyson V11 Extra | was $599.99, now $399.99 at Dyson (save $200)

If you're looking for a reliable, powerful cordless vacuum without Dyson's newer flashier features – the V11 is perfect.

It has three suction modes, but you have to manually select them yourself, unlike the V15 Detect which automatically senses when to do so. But as it costs $100s less, that's an easy sacrifice to accept.

It's also able to automatically de-tangle hair in the brushroll, and it comes with a variety of attachments for around-the-house cleaning.

Dyson V8 | was $469.99, now $349.99 at Dyson (save $120)

Dyson V8 | was $469.99, now $349.99 at Dyson (save $120)

One of Dyson's most affordable models, the V8 has a 40-minute runtime, which is on the longer end for cordless battery life, and powerful suction. Depending on the version you get (V8, V8 Absolute, or V8 Origin+), the cordless vacuum can come with a selection of attachments such as crevice, combination and brush tools.

Tineco LiteVak | was $299.99, now $74.99 at Walmart (save $225)

Tineco LiteVak | was $299.99, now $74.99 at Walmart (save $225)

If you're looking for a basic, affordable cordless vacuum, this lightweight model from Tineco could be the one. A vacuum costing under $100 is almost unheard of, so this $225 discount is a welcomed price change for anybody looking to spend less.

It has HEPA filtration for anti-allergen cleaning, up to 40 minutes runtime, and illuminating headlights on the floorhead. Learn more in my vacuum jargon buster A-Z.

Best early Black Friday upright vacuum deals

Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuum cleaner

If you have pets or enjoy the oomph of a more traditional vacuum, one of our best upright vacuums might be for you. They're powerful and reliable, and all of the models below have been tested and approved by our experts.

Shark POWERDETECT | was $399, now $299 at Shark (save $100 with code POWER100)
Star deal

Shark POWERDETECT | was $399, now $299 at Shark (save $100 with code POWER100)

The Shark POWERDETECT is our favorite upright vacuum that we've tested, featuring Shark's best vacuum tech including floor detection, a Lift-Away pod for easy handling, an odor-neutralizing cartridge, and incredibly powerful suction across all floor types.

You won't get a better vacuum at this price point.

Shark Stratos Upright Vacuum | was $499.99, now $349.99 at Home Depot (save $150)

Shark Stratos Upright Vacuum | was $499.99, now $349.99 at Home Depot (save $150)

While Home Depot lists the original price as $499.99, it's actually $399.99, meaning this is a $50 discount in real times. But that is still a decent reduction on one of the best vacuums we've ever tested.

In our review of the Shark Stratos Upright, we discovered that the vacuum cleaner performs excellently on all floor types. The powerful, versatile, maneuverable and odor-neutralizing vacuum into your home works amazingly on all debris types, including pet hair.

Dyson Ball Animal 3 | was $399.99, now $299.99 at Home Depot (save $100)

Dyson Ball Animal 3 | was $399.99, now $299.99 at Home Depot (save $100)

The Dyson Ball Animal 3 is an excellent upright vacuum with strong performance on all floor types and all debris, including pet hair. It's one of the most powerful vacuums and one of the best upright vacuums we've tested.

On test, Camryn found it easy to maneuver thanks to its spherical design, although it can be a little heavy. It also vacuumed extremely well on carpets as well as all hard floors, and its 'floorhead prevents pet hair from getting wrapped around the brush roll.'

Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe | was $199.99, now $159.99 at Home Depot (save $40)

Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe | was $199.99, now $159.99 at Home Depot (save $40)

We haven't tested the Navigator, but we've tested other Shark vacuums that use the 'Lift-Away' feature (like the Shark Stratos and Shark POWERDETECT), and it works great. Essentially, you can lift the pod out of the heavy main vacuum component for more freedom of movement when cleaning. Plus, the Navigator Deluxe comes in a neat monochrome design.

Best early Black Friday wet/dry vacuum deals

The Bissell CrossWave Hydrosteam cleaning a mess

Rising sharply in popularity due to the increase in hard floors in modern homes, wet/dry vacuums are a complete cleaning solution for both solid and liquid messes in one appliance. They have brush rolls that can capture debris and spills, while mopping your floors in the process, often with a cleaning solution.

Shark HydroVac MessMaster | was $299.99, now $199.99 at Home Depot (save $100)

Shark HydroVac MessMaster | was $299.99, now $199.99 at Home Depot (save $100)

The HydroVac is one of Shark's leading wet/dry vacuums. It can tackle wet and dry messes while mopping your hard floors. It can even remove stains with the help of a Stain Boost mode when you need to up the cleaning solution and power.

We've reviewed the portable Shark MessMaster and found it to be almost perfect.

Best early Black Friday robot vacuum deals

iRobot Roomba Combo j9+ Robot Vacuum and Mop mopping my kitchen floor

The best robot vacuums do a lot of the home cleaning for you, saving time and effort thanks to frequent runs of your floors. They're relatively new inventions so they're not always the cheapest, but if you find the right deal you can get some premium home tech for a decent price that will automate a lot of floor cleaning for you.

Roborock Q Revo | was $899.99, now $769.99 at Home Depot (save $130)

Roborock Q Revo | was $899.99, now $769.99 at Home Depot (save $130)

We haven't tested the Q Revo, but Roborock is a well-known, popular brand in the robot vacuum market.

The Q Revo is vacuums and mops your home for you, emptying dirt into a cleaning station that doesn't need emptying for up to seven weeks. The station also refills your vacuum mid-clean to cover more ground, and the mop pads scrub it clean to prevent any dirt buildup.

My top vacuum deal tips and tricks

I've been covering appliance deals and sales events since 2021. After writing about every Black Friday, Prime Day and other major sale periods for the last three years, I've learned how to spot a genuinely good deal, and a few things to do before heading into the online sales.

First off – do your research. There are tonnes of vacuum cleaners out there spanning cordless, upright, canister, wet/dry and even robot models. Brush up on how to choose the right vacuum cleaner for your home and browse our buying guides (linked below) for advice from our thorough testing. The right vacuum cleaner depends on your home's needs; they're not all suited to everyone.

Doing your research beforehand equip you when the big sales come around. With retailers and manufacturers pushing their 'best' vacuum deals, it can be easy to become distracted and choose a model you wouldn't have normally gone for.

Online stores will occasionally bump up the prices before a sale event so that their discounts look much bigger. So when it comes to finding deals, you can use two sites to check whether you've found it at its cheapest: Honey and CamelCamelCamel.

Honey is a price comparison tool. If you install it as an extension on your browser, it'll pop up when you're on a product page, and display info from across the web. It'll tell you if you've found it at its cheapest or if another retailer offers it at a better price. You can also view price history up to the past 120 days – this will help to show you whether you've found a genuinely good price, or if a retailer has bumped it up ahead of the sale so that the discount seems bigger.

CamelCamelCamel works in a similar way but exclusively for Amazon. You can enter a product name or URL and it'll show you its entire price history. This is particularly useful as you can see when a vacuum is at its lowest price ever (then, you've found it at the right time).

Use Camel and Honey alongside each other to check price history, compare other sites, and learn more about the best times to buy a particular vacuum.

Pro tip: You can find refurbished vacuums online for a lower price. It might not sound appealing for such an important investment, but refurbished vacuums still have to meet rigorous testing standards to be sold and labeled as such. Dyson Renewed is a great example – it's their outlet store for recycled and refurbished goods. You can also find dedicated pages for refurbished vacs at Walmart and Best Buy.

The best vacuums to look out for deals on

We've tested 48 of the world's best vacuum cleaners and put them through their paces in our test center and in our own homes. If you're unsure where to look, start with our dedicated buying guides:

If you're looking for something more specific, here's my handpicked selection of vacuums worth snapping up on a good deal.

When is a good time to find a vacuum deal?

In my time covering deals and sale events, I've learned that the best time to buy a vacuum cleaner is around September to January. This is often when brands are releasing new products, and the manufacturers and retailers will clear old stock to make space (by reducing the price). That being said, this isn't always the case, and I've learned that you can find vacuum bargains all-year-round if you know when to look...

Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals

Black Friday and Cyber Monday is the biggest sale event of the year. Historically this is where I've seen the most choice when it comes to vacuum deals, with retailers and the vacuum brands themselves all launching their own sales. If you're looking to browse, this is the best time to do so.

But surprisingly, it's not necessarily where you'll find the best prices. I've seen lower prices during Prime Day, Labor Day, or even during a random sale in the year. So, it can be beneficial to wait until Black Friday, but it's not essential.

After Christmas and New Year's Day vacuum deals

For some online stores and manufacturers, this period is the last chance to clear old vacuum stock, so you'll likely find some decent price reductions. There may not be the best choice on offer, but if you're looking for something cheap, you're in luck. It's also the time of year when people generally spend less, driving the prices down further.

Prime Day vacuum deals

Amazon's Prime Days (in July and October) always bring some great deals on vacuum cleaners, but there isn't always the biggest selection. As it's only a single retailer, the range of products that are actually discounted can sometimes be limited, but I often see the well-known bestsellers on offer (like those from Shark and Dyson).

Recently places like Walmart, Target and Best Buy have been launching competing sales while Prime Day is live, often lasting for days or even weeks longer. If you look through all the sites, you're sure to find a great discount on a good vac.

Labor Day vacuum deals

Among all the Labor Day sales, I've always been surprised by how many impressive vacuum deals I've found, often rivaling those I see during Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Prime Day. Lots of stores get involved with the Labor Day sales, as well as the brands themselves (it's on the brands' own websites where I tend to find the best deals).

FAQs

Why are Dyson vacuums so expensive?

Dysons are so expensive because they offer the best, market-leading engineering. From our 48 vacuum tests, Dyson have come out on top in almost every way, and their vacuums have unique features that can't be found elsewhere.

I'd personally never recommend buying a Dyson at full price, though. They're on offer so frequently throughout the year that it's best to wait until the Dyson deals are in full swing.

If they're still too expensive, we have a guide dedicated to the best Dyson alternatives, for similar cleaning power at a fraction of the cost.

Are cordless vacuums worth buying?

Yes, but it depends on your home. If you live in a busy, heavily carpeted home with pets, you'd probably benefit from the power of one of the best upright vacuums.

But if your home has a lot of hard floors, and you like to clean regularly, you can't beat the convenience of a cordless stick. They're lighter, more comfortable to use, and some are even rivaling the power of an upright vacuum (granted, these are the expensive ones, like the Dyson Gen5detect).

If you're on the hunt for the best vacuum deals, it might be worth learning how shark vs dyson vacuums compare, to see which will be best for your home.

And if you're looking to make your cleaning a little easier, find out whether robot vacuums are really worth it, too.
