A handy $19 under-the-sink organizer from Amazon doubled my awkward storage space – I wish I'd purchased it years ago
This addition helped me re-purpose a redundant and hard-to-fill space
Here's a question for you: what’s hard to come by in most homes, yet always in high demand? Storage space. Or, more specifically speaking, storage space that has shelves or other solutions specifically designed to work around household fixtures, like pipes.
For years, I've struggled to make use of a built-in storage cupboard I have in my bathroom as it's filled with ducts and electrical wires. But after coming across this Under Sink Storage solution for Organization on Amazon, it's taken my storage space to new heights.
Not only has this bathroom storage idea helped me re-purpose an otherwise redundant cupboard, but it's doubled the amount of space I have to work with. So, if storage is a common bugbear in your home, allow me to wax lyrical about why this is the best purchase I’ve made since sliced bread.
Why I love the under-the-sink organizer
I know there are plenty of bathroom ideas to help you organize your space. And most of these clever ideas I've already ticked off the list. However, I've always been hesitant to install a fitted fixture in the cupboard, due to there being electrical wires and pipes hidden inside.
But that's why an under-the-sink storage organizer, such as this expandable Obor Under Sink Organizer available on Amazon, is a treasure beyond measure.
I must admit, upon receiving my Amazon delivery, I was a little skeptical about whether or not this piece of kit would live up to its highly commended 4.4-star rating.
Let's face it, on the surface, this product doesn't look like much. It's essentially a plastic flat-pack product with metal rods that you'll need to fix together yourself.
But after opening the package and getting stuck in, it's quickly become a bathroom organization idea I couldn't be without.
How the under-the-sink storage organizer works
Coming with two sides, four metal rods, 10 plastic shelves and eight easy-to-fit screws, even for a flat-pack furniture fiend like myself, it took around 15 minutes to put these shelves together. So far, so good.
But what really makes this storage idea a must-have in my eyes, is the fact it’s highly customizable in a manner of ways. For example, you make the width of the expandable product bigger or smaller, just by pulling the sides.
You can also construct the panels of each shelf to work around your fixtures and fittings, depending on where your pipes, wires, or any other unmovable features are.
For example, if you've got a pipe in the middle of your cupboard, you could remove however many plastic shelves you need to make it fit. So no matter how big, small or tricky your chosen spot is, this product works with you, not against you and it can help you maximize your storage space.
My verdict
Knowing how to design awkwardly shaped spaces is no easy feat. This is why I'm completely sold on this handy storage idea for tight or hard-to-use spaces.
Before, this storage space was tricky to navigate and because of this, I left it years before finally deciding what I wanted to do with it.
Storage space under the sink is known (and perhaps loathed) for encasing pipework. Luckily, in my bathroom, my pipes run along the right-hand side and back of my storage space.
So while I didn't need to retrofit the shelves around any pipes, I did have to remove a couple to make the product smaller to allow future access to the electrical fixture and fittings. Going forward, I think this storage shelf could also be used as a brilliant kitchen storage idea and/or a bedroom storage idea too.
Of course, no product is perfect. And if I was being really picky, I don't think this storage shelf is the most aesthetically pleasing design-wise. But then again, it's not out in the open for all to see. It's helped fix a dead space in my house and for $19, it doesn't go far wrong!
