9 things to organize in April 2025 to prepare your home for a season of socializing and warmer weather ahead
Get sorted now for easier spring and summer get-togethers

The winter weather is finally on its way out, ending the need for hunkering down indoors and ushering in more time spent socializing. That's why experts urge you to organize these nine things in April 2025 to set your space up and welcome this change in routine.
Here, professional organizers reveal their top home organizing tips to help you get your home ready for the warmer weather ahead, and a different pace of life.
9 things to organize in April 2025
If you already started with things to organize in March, then you will be well on your way to a relaxed living space to make the most of spring. Add these eight areas to your to-do list now for a bulletproof system that ensures your downtime is spent relaxing, not desperately decluttering.
1. Your planner
Having a planner ready for all the warm weather events will help to keep your life on track.
If you are looking to make your to-do list less overwhelming, the first thing to organize in April should be your planner, advises Laura DeJohn, professional home organizer and owner of All Checked Off - Professional Organizing.
She points out, 'Before you know it, summer will be here. Now is the time to get organized for all things summer. Whether you have a trip planned, spend weekends at the beach or lake, or have a lot of birthdays to plan for, getting ahead of the game will save you once you’re in the throws of sunshine and outdoor summer nights.
‘If birthdays are on the list of plans, pick those themes and get to planning now. Create a bin or tote to gather your supplies, and don’t forget the gifts.’
This journal comes with daily to-do lists, habit trackers, and goal-planning sheets to help you set targets and goals while keeping tabs on upcoming events.
2. Furniture
Reorganizing your furniture can make more space for Easter hosting.
Organizing a living room goes beyond finding spots to stash cables. With the winter hosting season behind us, you might find it helpful to reorganize your furniture, especially as a lot of hosting starts to move outdoors.
Barbara Brock says, 'In the shared areas where a lot of time is spent, look at the space as a whole and ask yourself the following: Do you like the arrangement? Do you like the colors? What needs to be straightened? What needs to be tossed or given away? Sometimes, an item can be re-gifted or donated to a charity shop. How can I improve the area with more organization, or with fewer items?'
This step is especially important if you have previously or need to rearrange furniture before hosting a crowd.
Avoid injury when moving heavy furniture by yourself by using this wooden moving dolly. They slide underneath furniture to help you roll them across a room with ease. They also help protect your floors from damage, too.
3. Winter tools
Swapping snow and leaf blowers for pool supplies and outdoor furniture will make navigating outdoor maintenance more streamlined through summer.
With most of the snow and ice behind us, April is a great time to stow your winter tools away to keep them safe and ready for fall, says Beth Lennon, professional organizer and owner of Destination Decluttered.
She explains, ‘Each season has its accessories and areas of the home that tend to be a focus. Now is the time to organize your winter gear for storage – snow shovels, ice scrapers – and make a space to store them so they won’t get in your way.’
We recommend tucking them away when organizing a garage so they are in easy reach come fall, or even in backyard storage if it is weatherproof and will keep tools free from rust during April showers.
Keep unruly garden tools in check with a standing tool organizer. This rack holds up to 35 tools to prevent them from falling over and making your shed easy to navigate.
4. Your spring and summer bags
Setting up some grab bags in your entryway helps to keep those more awkward items such as swimsuits and extra towels neat.
It never hurts to be overprepared. With improving weather and spring break on the horizon, professional organizer Laura DeJohn always keeps a beach to-go bag ready in the trunk of her car so the family never misses out on the fun.
She recommends, ‘Pack a beach or pool bag [such as this Canasta Straw Tote from net-A-Porter] with towels, a dry bag for wet swimwear, sunscreen (replace if needed), a nice hat, goggles, and beach or pool toys. I suggest keeping the bag in your trunk so you’re always ready, especially if you have younger kids.
‘If a trip is in the works, plan now for any purchases you’ll need to make: water shoes, a special bag or purse, gear, etc. That way, you’ll have plenty of time to return and replace if needed,’ she adds. There are some great ways to fold clothes for packing that reduce wrinkles and damage, too – so it is never too early to start.
5. Your laundry room
As we switch to air-drying laundry and brighter clothing, our laundry space could do with a refresh.
One perhaps unexpected change spring brings is to our laundry routines. As our clothes get thinner and brighter and the weather warms up, allowing us to reap the benefits of air-drying laundry, our laundry habits can change quite a bit.
From the products we use to the frequency of the chores, it can help to organize a laundry room again to make the routine seamless.
Lauran Saltman, professional home organizer and founder of Living. Simplified. says, 'With a little organization and a thoughtful system, laundry day can feel less overwhelming.
'You may find that setting a realistic laundry schedule and involving your family can make a big difference. Assigning specific days for each person's laundry or dividing tasks like washing, folding, or putting away can help keep the routine running smoothly.
'Finally, consider using a pre-sorter laundry basket. These divided hampers allow you to sort as you go, either by family members or by whites, darks, and delicates. This pre-sorting will help you save time and prevent dirty clothing from piling up in various locations around the house.'
These laundry pods are Environmental Working Group (EWG) Certified, meaning they're a healthier swap when cutting out toxic laundry room items.
If you are still using your dryer through spring and summer, consider switching to wool dryer balls. They are a great non-toxic dryer sheet alternative that will break up and fluff up your laundry for even drying and softer bedding.
After testing it out for a month in her home, our head of solved Punteha van Terheyden fell in love with this laundry hamper. It pre-sorts laundry and helped her better manage chronic pain flares that were aggravated when manually sorting her washing on the floor or when reaching into the bottom of a basket.
6. The pantry
Moving leftover winter ingredients to the front of your pantry ensure they are all used up at the start of the season so nothing goes to waste.
With al-fresco dining and the start of spring barbecues now an option in warmer states and Easter festivities just around the corner, April is a great time to organize a pantry for hosting friends and family.
Katy Wells, home organizer, Founder of Clutter Cure Club, and host of The Maximized Minimalist podcast suggests, ‘Take everything out, check expiration dates, and wipe down shelves. You can also do these tasks in smaller chunks of time instead of one go if needed.
‘As you put things back, group like-items together: baking supplies, snacks, canned goods, etc. This makes finding things easier and helps in meal planning and grocery shopping. Utilize storage solutions like clear containers for bulk items or baskets for grouping small packets.’
Make better use of vertical storage to save space on shelves by using stacking drawers in pantries to store snacks and packet goods.
Two sizes
Baskets are great for storing items in packets, keeping like items such as chips all contained. Avoid storing any items in baskets that could spill, as they can prove difficult to clean out and could result in mold.
Clear storage bins are fantastic for fridges and pantries, allowing you to stack goods to make better use of storage space while seeing everything you have in one glance. This prevents you from forgetting anything that could then secretly expire.
7. Your dining room
Organizing your hosting supplies in advance makes easter dinners a little less stressful.
If you take a look in your dining room storage, the likelihood is all of your Christmas supplies have been stashed quickly in the front, shoved away after a season of heavy winter hosting.
Before planning out your Easter table decor ideas, however, it is a good idea to reorganize your hosting supplies to bring all your spring and summer stuff to the front. This way, you can take stock of what you have and anything that may need replacing while making it easier to set a table, be it indoors or outside, before guests arrive.
Keep your dining essentials neat and prevent visual clutter by corralling items on a tray. Everything from napkins to cutlery to placeholders can look more intentional when gathered centrally on a tray or in a basket.
These woven place mats suit any season, making them fantastic investment pieces for your tablescaping sets. Plus, having one versatile set saves space in your dining room storage.
This cotton-linen blend tablecloth is a fantastic neutral base to build any table scaping ideas on top of. Having one set cloth and then changing out runners and centre pieces saves storage space and money.
8. Your car and garage
Prepping the car and garage makes spring and summer days out less stressful.
Katy Wells, home organizer, says, ‘Often overlooked, cars can accumulate a lot of clutter and dirt over the winter months.
'Take some time in April to do a thorough clean-out of the car, both interior and exterior. This could include organizing the glove compartment and trunk, and getting rid of any unnecessary items such as old receipts that have been piling up.’
Similarly, take some time to organize a garage so the car is easier to access, and spring tools and toys are at the front, ready to grab and go. This way, you are ready to get up and go on any spring road trips or days out when nice weather suddenly strikes.
9. Your closet
Closets, dressers, and seasonal storage all over your home needs a quick spruce up to serve you through spring.
It's hard to get ready for all these get-togethers if the clothes you need as stashed away. Take the change in the weather around April as a key sign it's time to reorganize your closet begins Barbara Brock, professional organizer and home stager. She explains, 'We seem to get a sense of beginning again. To be prepared for the upcoming months, take stock of your closet. Look at what you have worn and remove those items from your closet.
'What’s left is to be edited and for you to decide if you want to give those apparel items, accessories, and shoes another season. If an item hasn’t been worn, two thoughts must occur: is it relevant to my living, and does it need to be given away or stored in deep storage? Some items just can’t be tossed, but that doesn’t mean they have to stay in your closet and take up space.'
After following these closet decluttering tips, stash items by type of garment to make finding what you need easier. You might find that at this time of year, you need to keep hold of some sweaters and jackets to fight off a spring breeze.
Closet shelves can be tricky to keep neat, especially if you need to pull something out from the bottom of a pile. These plastic shelf stackers split the piles up while stopping things from toppling over.
These slimline wooden hangers offer you the space-saving benefits of velvet flocked hangers, with the sturdiness of traditional wooden hangers, making them ideal for structured garments.
Dividers are a must for organizing dresser drawers. They help to keep smaller items neat and prevent items from going missing. It also keeps file-folded garments tidy and easy to find so drawers do not turn into clutter mountains.

FAQs
Is it good to organize your home every month?
It can be a good idea to perform small, seasonal home-organizing sessions every month, but it is important not to take it too far and stress yourself out. Focus on key areas for that month, which will likely reflect the relevant activities that usually happen around that time. Organize tax files in April, for instance, or reorganize your closet in September when the weather begins to turn and you need warmer clothes back out from storage. This is a great way to stay on top of mess without committing to lengthy and exhausting organizing challenges.
Organizing in April is also one of the best ways to set yourself up for successful spring cleaning, helping to clear away any mess or clutter-blocks that might otherwise get in the way when trying to freshen up your home after winter.
