This year, I'm making a concerted effort to be more green. Be it cleaning with vinegar, baking soda, essential oils – and even teabags, I'm on a mission to reduce the amount of toxic products I use to sanitize and scent my space, to protect my home and the health of me, my family, and my pets.

So, when I heard about these new limited edition spring-scented cleaning and home fragrance products from Mrs. Meyer's, available at Walmart, I had to give them ago. And, not only do they smell amazing, they work super effectively, too. After testing them out, they're now a staple to help me tick off my spring cleaning checklist.

Why is it a good idea to switch to non-toxic cleaning products?

As Karina Toner, cleaning expert and operations manager at Spekless explains, 'Switching to non-toxic cleaning products will often be framed around health and environmental benefits – and for good reason! They’re gentler on surfaces, improve indoor air quality, and are safer for kids, pets, and those with sensitivities,' perfect for me when striving to keep a clean home with pets.

Karina adds that she personally advocates for the use of non-toxic products as they're budget-friendly and more sustainable than traditional, commercial cleaners, which also applies to my newfound favorite Mrs. Meyer's products.

I began first by testing the Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Multi-Surface Cleaner in the Lilac scent, available at Walmart, and immediately was impressed by the deliciously floral scent profile.

As a multi-surface cleaner, I used it for cleaning the bathroom, and my dad later used it to clean the kitchen. Luckily, he was equally impressed! On all surfaces it removed dirt and debris effectively, paired with a microfiber cloth such as the HOMEXCEL Microfiber Cleaning Cloth available at Amazon, and left them sparkling.

I was even able to use it after my rescue puppy had an accident in her pen, once I had thoroughly washed her comfy dog bed which sits on top of the plastic layer. As the spray is non-toxic, I didn't have to worry about the potentially dangerous adverse effects that any chemicals may have on her while she sleeps, which are often a cause for concern in my household.

It's no secret that living with beloved pets can also often be a source of bad smells, and that it can certainly be difficult to banish pet odors once and for all. While there are some great non-toxic home-scenting options available, I tend to shy away from using them around my pets in general, even though I am clued up on how to pick non-toxic candles, and do get so many 'Your home smells amazing' compliments when using the Pomegranate Noir Jo Malone diffuser.

Enter: the Mrs. Meyer's Room Freshener in Rose, available at Walmart. Anyone that knows me knows I love the scent of rose, and this is truly no exception.

Light, floral, and (most-impressively) long-lasting, this environmentally friendly room spray filled my home with an uplifting scent that's made purely from plant-derived ingredients, without propellants, phthalates, parabens, or artificial colors. This means I can safely and happily use it around my dogs, tortoise and fish tanks, and keep my best candles strictly for evening bedroom use, away from any animals.

Speaking of candles, I'm also obsessing over the Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Mint Soy Candle, which is a long-burning candle with a lead-free wick, made from plant-derived soy wax.

Fragranced with essential oils, this small yet mighty candle sure packs a punch, and it looks gorgeous on display on my bookshelf. I always think candles are the perfect, multi-use alternative to decorating with vases, and they certainly get bonus points in my books if they're non-toxic, too.

Elegantly minty yet deliciously sweet, this one, which boasts a 12-hour burn time, is ideal both for making a home smell good for spring and for making a home smell nice for summer – although I'm expecting to have fully burned mine by then! After use, there are so many clever ways to reuse candle jars around your house to be sustainable at home, and I'm sure this cute tin will find its way into my bedroom decor for good. Alternatively, simply recycle it at home.
