If you were looking for a vacuum upgrade but missed your chance in the Prime Day sale this year, don't worry. The best deals, it turns out, weren't on Amazon this time round, but actually in the many competing sales from other retailers and the brands themselves.

I'm H&G's home tech editor, and aside from testing and reviewing vacuum cleaners on a near-daily basis, I also cover every significant sale event. So, I'm familiar with what prices to expect, what good value looks like, and how to separate a proper deal from a false price reduction.

Every year I see the best vacuum cleaners get discounted as sales come in and out. But right now, one of our best-ever vacuums, the Dyson V15 Detect, is at its lowest price ever at Walmart and Dyson. You absolutely can't get a better vacuum cleaner for this price (more on that below), but I've also included some alternative deals if it's out of your budget.

The best last-minute vacuum deals in the post-Prime Day sales

These are the very best deals on vacuum cleaners in the sales following Prime Day this year. Act fast though, these won't stick around for long. All of these vacuums we've tested or can vouch for their reliability from brands we trust.

Dyson V15 Detect | was $749.99, now $579.99 at Walmart and Dyson (save $170)
Best-on-test

Dyson V15 Detect | was $749.99, now $579.99 at Walmart and Dyson (save $170)

As a home tech pro, and as somebody who tests and reviews vacuum cleaners for a living, the Dyson V15 Detect is the vacuum I'd recommend above all others – and there are lots of reasons why, even without the knowledge that it's currently at its lowest price ever.

Dyson is the big name in the world of vacuum cleaners for good reason. Their engineering tech is at the forefront of the market with cyclone motors and unique features, which is why they can justify such steep price tags.

The Dyson V15 Detect is the flagship vacuum cleaner (aside from the Dyson Gen5detect, but as it costs almost $1,000, I can't comfortably recommend it). It's the vacuum behind Dyson's famous green laser, that reveals hidden dust that the naked eye can't see. It also automatically adapts its suction power depending on how dusty the floor is, or whether you're vacuuming carpets/hard floors, and it counts each individual particle so you know which areas in your home are dirtiest.

It's rated as our best vacuum for pet hair thanks to its unrivalled performance on fur. Our tester Jaclyn found that, when vacuuming her dog's bed, 'it not only revived the faux-sherpa bottom that is an absolute magnet for dirt but brightened the fleece top from a dusty blue back to its original turquoise.'

Dyson V12 Detect Slim | was $649.99, now $429.99 at Walmart and Dyson (save $220)
Editor's choice

Dyson V12 Detect Slim | was $649.99, now $429.99 at Walmart and Dyson (save $220)

If the V15 Detect is a bit outside of your price range, the V12 Detect Slim is the smaller, more affordable alternative. It carries all of the same features, like the green laser, dust detection, responsive suction, exceptional pet hair performance, etc. It's just a little smaller, so you'll need to empty the dustbin more often and perhaps charge it more often.

While the V15 Detect is arguably the best we've ever tested, I personally use the V12 Detect Slim in my own home. The affordability is a big factor, but it's also more lightweight, and I really don't mind emptying the dustbin more frequently if it means saving $100-200.

Shark POWERDETECT | was $499.99, now $429.99 at Walmart (save $70)
Best upright vacuum

Shark POWERDETECT | was $499.99, now $429.99 at Walmart (save $70)

The Shark POWERDETECT is currently the best upright vacuum we've ever tested. Dust, debris and hair are no match for the vacuum's relentless suction power, regardless of floor type.

On test, the vacuum was able to pick up 'every visible piece of hair (as well as litter near the litter box) from the carpet, filling the dust bin with an amount of hair equal to a second cat.'

The same performance was found when vacuuming other messes, too, as James noted: 'It’s able to suck everything up in its path efficiently and proficiently, no matter the debris. And, it’s equally capable regardless of the surface I used it on.'

Bissell CleanView XR | was $199, now $119.99 at Amazon (save $79.01)

Bissell CleanView XR | was $199, now $119.99 at Amazon (save $79.01)

Bissell is well-known for producing reliable floorcare appliances at a reasonable cost. They don't overcharge, so you can trust a $200 Bissell vacuum to be of similar quality to a $300-ish vacuum from a more expensive brand.

Now, the CleanView XR is on offer for $119.99, one of the cheapest vacuums available in the Prime Day sale right now. It has all the features you'd expect from a cordless stick: it's light, multi-purpose and has attachments for reaching low and high (like an extension wand).

Shark Cordless PowerDetect Clean & Empty System | was $499.99, now $399.99 at Shark (save $100)

Shark Cordless PowerDetect Clean & Empty System | was $499.99, now $399.99 at Shark (save $100)

This is Shark's latest, most advanced cordless vacuum in their lineup. While we're still in the testing process, we're already impressed by its fusion of all of Shark's greatest features, like wand flexibility, dust detection, and a fuss-free self-cleaning station.

You can also buy the Shark Cordless PowerDetect without the cleaning station for $359.99 at Shark.

Shark Detect Pro Cordless | was $379.99, now $199.99 at Shark (save $180)

Shark Detect Pro Cordless | was $379.99, now $199.99 at Shark (save $180)

To match Dyson's cleaning power, the Shark Detect Pro Cordless can detect floor type, dust volume and even your floor's edges so that it can automatically adjust suction power (between three modes).

It also has a multi-surface floorhead, anti-allergen HEPA filtration, and an LED display to show battery life and cleaning mode.

I tested this myself, and while it isn't the best I've ever tested, it does make for a strong option for a Dyson alternative, offering fairly powerful cleaning power for a much smaller cost.

Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with NeverTouch Base | was $899.99, now $699.99 at Shark (save $200)

Shark PowerDetect 2-in-1 Robot Vacuum and Mop with NeverTouch Base | was $899.99, now $699.99 at Shark (save $200)

The latest robot vacuum from Shark, the PowerDetect 2-in-1 is a vacuum/mop combo that promises to up the cleaning power from previous models.

The PowerDetect targets hidden debris, stuck-on stains and edges on every floor type, with 'NeverStuck' tech that lifts the robot over obstacles and across thick carpets.

You can also get the Shark PowerDetect robot with the upgraded NeverTouch Pro Base (that washes and dried the mop pads) for $799.99 at Shark. Or, buy the robot and a simpler self-empty base for $399.99 at Shark.
