Household cleaning is not something that many people think about in terms of trends, but with the explosion of ‘clean-fluencers' on social media sharing hugely popular cleaning hacks and ideas, it's clear the way we approach cleaning has changed.

Heading into 2025, our panel of professional cleaners predict that many of us will start to follow new patterns and emerging cleaning trends, with six key ones emerging to help us achieve the picture-perfect homes of our dreams.

We spoke to top cleaning experts to learn more about the 2025 cleaning trends that will likely shape our to-do lists, and how these quick-spreading cleaning tips will result in better habits for all of us in the New Year.

Although there are plenty of cleaning trends we have fallen out of love with over the years, there is a solid theme for cleaning trends we love heading into 2025 – wellbeing.

And we can’t see any of them dropping out of popularity any time soon.

1. A focus on green cleaning and sustainability

We should all be striving to clean our homes without harming the planet – and 2025 seems to be the year we dig deep into green cleaning and being more sustainable at home.

Alicia Sokolowski, cleaning expert and founder at Aspen Clean shares, ‘With more and more people becoming eco-conscious and aware of their environmental impact, we certainly hope that green cleaning will continue to be on the rise, taking a more dominant spot in the cleaning industry.

‘When switching to green cleaning, or beginning to look for green alternatives, be aware of what’s in the product you use by checking the labels and ingredients. Always opt for products made from natural ingredients, ideally carrying a special certification confirming their quality, such as EWG verification or ECOCERT certification, and bonus points if products are also Cruelty-Free.'

Alicia says this green cleaning trend is an important and good trend to follow in 2025 for the following reasons:

2. A move to automation

If you have ever wondered if you should buy a robot vacuum, 2025 is the year to take the plunge. These devices have come a long way since the first robot vacuum was released in 2002. Now, they're loaded with smart tech, powerful suction and automated cleaning schedules to take the load off of you.

Who wouldn't want smart home cleaning tools to free up more time for relaxing?

Taylor Sutherland, cleaning expert and president at Charlie’s Soap says, ‘I am totally biased here, but man-o-man, a robot mop and vacuum has literally been one of my better purchases of the last few years. I love it – and if you go ahead and spend a few bucks to get the one with the bells and whistles, you will love it too.

‘I never realized just how dirty my floors were. Granted, I put a splash of Charlie's Soap [available at Amazon] in the clean water tank, but that's just me. Take the plunge, especially with one of the best best robot vacuum and mop contraptions. You won't be sorry, and you'll find yourself naming yours, too. Ours is named "Robbie",’ he adds.

Sutherland isn’t the only one who is loving their newfound free time. Our head of Solved, Punteha van Terheyden is in chronic pain and vacuuming was impossible until she got a robot vacuum. She has named it one of the best investment gadgets for any household.

3. Cleaning is going to be a form of self care

The internet wellness trend is not slowing down any time soon. In fact, it is only gaining traction. Now, our cleaning routines are becoming a key part of creating a self-care space. From Sunday resets to relaxing evening closing shift routines, cleaning as a way to relax and shut off from stress will make chores more mindful.

Alicia Sokolowski, a cleaning expert says, ‘We love this trend because, for us, cleaning has always been more than just tidying up – it’s about creating a space that feels calm and refreshing. Turning cleaning into part of a self-care routine is such a great idea because it lets you reset both your mind and your home.'

Incorporating small rituals such as body doubling, playing music, singing your favorite tunes, or focusing on the rhythm of wiping surfaces, can make cleaning feel meditative and relaxing.

‘Using products lightly scented with essential oils can turn the experience into a mini spa moment,’ Alicia adds. ‘Pleasant, natural scents make cleaning more enjoyable, unlike harsh chemical cleaners that can feel overwhelming and cause headaches. Weekend resets are a simple and rewarding way to care for yourself while caring for your space.’

4. Creating routines

Step aside last-minute clean-ups – 2025 is the year of creating achievable cleaning routines, says Kimberly Gonzales, cleaning expert and podcaster at PÜR Evergreen. ‘The biggest trend I am seeing right now is people wanting to have a consistently decluttered and organized home. This means having a cleaning schedule and system put in place, especially for those of us with ADHD.’

Brianna Paruolo, psychotherapist and LCMHC clinical director at On Par Therapy suggests that habit and task stacking will be a key part of this for most of us in the New Year.

'Habit stack by playing a podcast or audio book you've been meaning to listen to,' Brianna says. 'I encourage 20-25 minute sessions of cleaning one area at a time. It can often become overwhelming if you feel every room must be cleaned by the end of the day. Instead, dedicating a small amount of time to one space allows you to truly feel accomplished and intentional about how you are spending your energy.’

5. UV lights

What started out as a point of interest on social media has now become a bigger part in how we clean a house fast, says Alicia Sokolowski, a cleaning expert. UV light cleaning tools, like UV-C sanitizers and air purifiers, are becoming more popular for reducing germs, bacteria, and viruses at home.

While they’re especially effective in medical settings and for skin care, they can be useful at home as a cleaning shortcut for sanitizing smaller items like phones, remotes, and keyboards. That said, how well they work depends on the product and how it’s used,’ she adds. ‘As we head into 2025, we expect UV cleaning tech to keep gaining popularity, especially as people look for extra ways to sanitize high-touch surfaces beyond traditional cleaning methods.’

Taylor Sutherland, a cleaning expert adds that it is important to not take this new tech too far, however. ‘I'm sure there are few exceptions, and I have always cautioned against over-disinfecting your home. It can leave you vulnerable to infection as your body doesn't (and I'm not a doctor, so take this with a grain of salt) get a chance to practice on little things, and a big thing is more apt to come and take you down. But for washing your hands and such, or perhaps disinfecting things that just need to be disinfected, they are a great option.

‘Do your research on the brand and watch out for knock-offs,’ he warns.

6. Enhancing cleaning with AI (Artificial Intelligence)

AI is a contentious topic at the moment, but whether you are a fan or not, it is integrating itself into everyday household cleaning routines, suggests cleaning expert Alicia Sokolowski.

Alicia explains, 'With AI being more common in home appliances, we might see smarter cleaning tools that analyze your space and create personalized cleaning routines. It’s an interesting way to make cleaning more efficient and tailored to your needs.’

For example, Samsung announced a new range of AI home appliances earlier this year, so this looks like a trend we will all be dipping our toes into at some point in the near future.

Robot vacuums such as the eufy X10 Pro Omni, which we tested and loved, incorporate AI into their apps, carving out the ability for it to create smart cleaning plans that it runs for you on a schedule it interprets as suitable for your home's needs. This is especially handy if you are working on keeping your house clean with cats or dogs.

Despite being labeled as 'trends', we believe these cleaning habits aren’t fads and are more certainly here to stay, with our experts predicting that they will be the foundations for better routines and healthier habits far beyond the next 12 months.

Just be sure to keep track of the cleaning hacks to avoid amidst all the New Year’s news to keep you and your home happy and healthy.
