The WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress has sat at the top of our testing list for quite some time. I finally got the go-ahead to place my order and head to bed at the start of spring. I found a bed that was worth waiting for, with zoned support for ergonomics and plenty of cushioning for plush comfort.
The WinkBed Mattress comes in four comfort levels to suit every sort of sleeper. There's Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer, as well as Plus to suit plus-sized sleepers. The Luxury Firm offers a careful balance of comfort and support to promote proper spinal alignment. That's the firmness I tested, and that's the one I'd recommend.
As an H&G sleep expert, I'm part of the search to find the world's best mattress. For the sake of a fair fight, we score each mattress against the same criteria: comfort; support; cooling properties; motion isolation; edge support; and weight bearing capacity. The WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress excels in almost every category. I'd say it's a close competitor to the Saatva Classic Mattress, our best mattress overall.
WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress review
Best of all, for a self-described 'luxury' mattress, it isn't even that expensive: especially not when you shop the mattress sales. Right now, you could save $300 on a WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress in any size, and we aren't even approaching a major sales period.

Who would the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress suit?
- All sleep positions: I sleep on my stomach, while my partner switches between her back and side, and we both slept comfortably on the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress.
- Anyone who suffers from chronic pain: between the zoned support of innersprings and the pressure relief of the memory foam, the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress is designed to bear your weight and promote proper spinal alignment.
- Plus-sized sleepers: unlike a lot of the major mattress brands, WinkBed caters for taller, broader sleepers. You can get the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress in Plus, which feels extra-firm to stop you from sinking into the mattress.
- Light sleepers: the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress boasts excellent motion isolation. Even if you share a bed with a pet or partner, you shouldn't feel disturbed in the night by their tossing and turning.
What's it like to sleep on the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress?
- Comfort and support: the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress was really comfortable and molded to the shape of my body, especially when sleeping on my stomach. I usually woke up feeling refreshed, without any bodily aches or pains. This hybrid mattress is lined with individually wrapped pocketed coils, which helps to minimize motion transfer and optimize support.
- Cooling properties: the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress is topped with a thick layer of gel-infused memory foam to offset the heat retention of traditional memory foam. This went some way towards keeping me cool, but I still woke up sweating on particularly warm nights. If you suffer from night sweats or hot flashes, then I suggest you invest in the best cooling mattress, instead. The Bear Elite Hybrid Mattress has a similar look, feel, and cost to the WinkBed, but it boasts better thermoregulation.
- Motion isolation: the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress incorporates SleepCalm technology to minimize motion transfer. To assess the motion isolation of the mattress, I filled a glass with water, set it in the center of the bed, and applied pressure around it. No matter how close I got, the glass didn't budge. In practice, this meant that my partner never noticed when I got into and out of bed in the middle of the night. I'd happily recommend the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress for light sleepers.
- Edge support: a mattress with outstanding motion isolation and excellent edge support is the holy grail. I feel like I've finally found it in the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress. Even when sitting on the edge, I didn't feel like I was going to fall off, which is likely a product of this being a firmer mattress. I would recommend this bed for stomach sleepers and anyone who tends to lie on the side of the bed.
- Sleep trial: the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress comes with a 120-night mattress sleep trial. That should give you just enough time to test the bed through several seasons, paying especial attention to its thermoregulation, before you commit to your purchase.
- Warranty: the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress comes with a lifetime mattress warranty. You're covered for physical flaws in the mattress caused by a manufacturing defect – split foam, cracked springs, and the like – in spite of normal usage and proper handling. I recommend covering your bed with the best mattress protector to safeguard against spills and stains.
How does the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress rate online?
The WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress is well-loved with a 4.8 average star rating from more than 8,400 reviews on the WinkBed website. Reviewers appreciated that the mattress arrives quickly and strikes a careful balance between firm support and plush comfort for a great night's sleep. In particular, people with injuries and any sort of chronic pain said that the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress offered a lot of comfort. There are a smattering of more mixed reviews, most of which complain that the mattress runs too firm. If you're looking for something softer, but still supportive, you might prefer the Layla Hybrid Mattress.
Should I buy the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress?
The WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress retails for around $1,799 for a Queen. It's currently discounted and listed for $300 less, bringing us under $1,500. That's very affordable for a luxury mattress.
After months of testing, I can conclude that the WinkBed Luxury Hybrid Mattress is a great cost-friendly bed for people who prefer a firmer surface. It's also a great bed for sharing due to its low levels of motion transfer and excellent edge support. The warranty is pretty generous, so I'd say it's worth trying for the 120-night sleep trial to see how you feel.
How we test mattresses
We put a lot of thought into how we test mattresses. Our expert testers sleep on beds for months, ideally through several seasons, to monitor their performance over time. We assess each bed against the same criteria: comfort; support; breathability; motion isolation; edge support; and weight bearing capacity. We'd expect a hybrid mattress, such as the WinkBed, to score highly across the board.
Some of our tests are fairly subjective. The only way to get a read on comfort and support is to lie on the bed and see how we feel. Other tests are more scientific. We use a system of weights and water glasses to measure motion isolation and edge support.
Where possible, we compare our findings against verified customer reviews to show a range of experience with the same mattress. We also consider the practicalities, from sleep trial and warranties to the all-important price, to help you determine value for money.
