Whether you're shopping for contemporary furniture or understated decor, you'll find it at West Elm. Think clean lines, natural materials, and neutral hues, creating a cozy and uncluttered aesthetic for your home.

As an eCommerce Editor, I spend eight hours a day window-shopping the world's most iconic home retailers. Price-wise, West Elm is comfortably middle of the pack: more expensive than Wayfair or IKEA, but usually more affordable than Lulu & Georgia or McGee & Co. I've learned how to shop the West Elm sales to get the most value for money, and I want to share my wisdom with you.

First, I'll drop some quick links, so you can shop the West Elm sales by department. Then, I'll explain more about the best times to shop at West Elm and what actually constitutes a good deal.

West Elm White sale

This sale typically falls in January, covering bath and bedding. It's the best time to score deep discounts on comforters, sheet sets, towels, and bath mats at West Elm.

West Elm Memorial Day sale

This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday, May 26, but I'd expect to see discounts dropping the weekend before. This is your last chance to bag summer furniture and decor at out-of-season prices.

West Elm Independence Day sale

If you're hosting for the holidays, the West Elm 4th of July sales is a great time to save on table linens, outdoor serveware, and grill accessories.

West Elm Labor Day sale

This year, Labor Day falls on Monday, September 1. Judging by previous years, this is the best time to score deep discounts on summer furniture and decor, now that it's no longer in season.

West Elm Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale

This year, Black Friday falls on November 28, but I'd expect discounts to start dropping at least a week in advance and run through Cyber Monday on December 1.

Black Friday weekend is the best time to buy almost anything, as stores compete to offer the lowest prices for the biggest shopping holiday of the year. It's a good chance to stock up on gifts for the holiday season.

West Elm Friends and Family sale

These pop up a couple of times a year, often in March and September, but the exact dates vary. The Friends and Family sale is site-wide.

Judging by previous years, you can expect to see discounts as deep as 30% on everything from rugs and soft furnishings to light fixtures and furniture.

FAQs

What is the West Elm aesthetic?

Much of West Elm's furniture and decor fits the mid-century modern aesthetic of natural textures and streamlined shapes, rendered in neutral hues to complement any color palette.

Who are West Elm's competitors?

For breadth of deals and depth of discount, the West Elm sales is one of the best places to buy affordable furniture. If you're working with a particularly tight budget, you might be better off turning to Wayfair, Walmart, and Target. The quality might not be as high but neither are the prices.

If you like the West Elm aesthetic, and you're keen to invest in your home, you could explore Arhaus (hand-crafted, inspired by nature), Pottery Barn (traditional and rustic) or Lulu & Georgia (characterful and cozy).

If you like the mid-century modern aesthetic, but you're working with a tighter budget, you could always explore the H&M Home sales. You'll find Scandi-chic furniture and decor on a shoestring budget.
