Whether you're shopping for home appliances and hardware or outdoor furniture and decor, you'll find everything you need for your next home improvement project at Home Depot.

As an eCommerce Editor, I spend my days window-shopping home retailers to bring you the hottest products at the lowest prices. Compared to their closest competitor, Lowe's, Home Depot is a little more expensive, but the range of products is much wider. I've learned how to shop the Home Depot sales to make the most of my money, and I want to share my wisdom with you.

Before we begin, I'll drop a few quick links to help you shop the Home Depot sales by department. Then, I'll explain more about the best time to shop at Home Depot and how to make sure you're getting a good deal.

Where to find the best Home Depot deals

Home Depot Memorial Day sales

This year, Memorial Day falls on May 26. It's your last chance to buy outdoor furniture and decor that you'll actually get to use this summer.

Judging by previous years, you can also expect to see deep discounts on grills, pergolas, lawnmowers and insect repellents.

Home Depot Red, White & Blue Sale

Every 4th of July, Home Depot discounts appliances, such as washers and dryers, alongside lawn care and gardening supplies to get your yard looking its best for hosting season.

Home Depot Labor Day sales

If you can wait until September 1, you'll see the steepest discounts on grills and patio furniture, as Home Depot slash prices on summer items in a bid to shift stock and make way for the new season.

Home Depot Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales

This year, Black Friday falls on November 28, but I'd expect deals to start dropping at least a week in advance and run through Cyber Monday on December 1.

Black Friday is a great chance to stock up on home appliances as gifts for the holiday season. Cyber Monday is better for tools and smart home tech.

Home Depot After-Christmas sales

As soon as Christmas is over, you'll see steep discounts on indoor and outdoor holiday decor. I'm talking everything from lights and ornaments to artificial trees, so you can get ahead for next year.

Home Depot Spring Black Friday sales

This typically falls in April. You'll see deep discounts on mulch, gardening supplies, lawncare, grills, patio furniture: anything you can use to get your yard ready for the new year.

Join Home Depot Pro Xtra

This is the Home Depot loyalty program. It's free to join, and you get access to lower-than-shelf pricing, plus sneak peeks into site-wide sales events and free next-day delivery.

You'll earn perks with each purchase that you can redeem on your next order, plus discounts like 20% off paints, stains, and primers.

Make the most of bulk pricing

This is most useful if you're in the middle of a remodel or renovation. When you're buying in large quantities, you can get 10% to 15% off insulation, pavers, electricals, and all sorts of essentials.

Browse the Special Buy of the Day section

Every day, Home Depot lists a few dozen deals for 24 hours only in their Special Buy of the Day section. There's often a theme: power tool kits, perhaps, or seasonal outdoor decor.

Speaking as a penny-pincher, I'd encourage you not to make any impulse purchases you won't actually use. There's no point buying power tools that will just gather dust in your garage. On the other hand, if you can find a Special Buy of the Day that meets your needs, then you've just scored a deep discount on an essential.

FAQs

Is Home Depot better than Lowe's?

It depends what you're looking for. I turn to Home Depot for power tools, hardware, and appliances: practical items, rather than pretty ones. I prefer the outdoor furniture and decor offerings at Lowe's: they're more stylish.

Will Home Depot price match Amazon?

Yes. As long as the items are identical (same model, brand, size, and color), in stock and available for purchase at both stores, then you can request a price match.

First, you need to prove that Amazon stocks the same item at a lower price. You can include screenshots or a link to the relevant product listing when you contact the Home Depot Customer Solutions team.

I turn to the Home Depot for power tools and appliances, but I prefer to shop the Target deals for outdoor furniture and decor. You'll find deep discounts on garden goods to get your yard ready for the new year.
