Could the viral 'burr basket' trend be the answer to all your gifting dilemmas? Here's how I'm building mine in the Black Friday sales
Have you heard of a 'burr basket'? Filled with plenty of cozy holiday goodies, this is your checklist to creating the perfect gift
One of the biggest holiday gifting trends for 2024 has, unsurprisingly, come from TikTok. And the viral 'burr basket' could just be the easiest, go-to gifting idea I've found this year.
Also referred to as a 'jingle basket', this hamper alternative is a cheat sheet to creating a basket of the best home decor gifts and coziest self-care goodies to encourage a loved one to spend a little time in the slow lane, lower their shoulders, and snuggle up this festive season.
As a shopping expert, it is my job to find the most stylish gifts and home decor on the market, so if you're looking to give the coziest (and most on-trend) gift this Thanksgiving or Christmas, here's my checklist to creating your own super chic, budget-friendly 'burr basket' – taking full advantage of the Black Friday sales.
How to create your own 'burr basket' for the holidays
If, like me, you feel like you've used up possibly every good gift idea going by now, perhaps curating a 'burr basket' could be the answer to your gifting woes.
Typically filled with warm and welcoming buys that help your giftee plan the ultimate winter night in, this gift doesn't need to cost the earth. Similar to a stocking, think about adding a plush throw blanket, slippers or socks, chocolate, candy, beauty gifts, and some personalized treats too. I'd also recommend throwing in a Netflix Gift Card from Amazon so they can watch Nancy Meyers' movies on repeat over the holidays.
Here are the 15 best Black Friday sale buys I've found to help you curate a 'burr basket' of dreams.
Of course, you need to start with the actual basket. You can grab a cheap Small Woven Bag from Amazon with a gift bag and ribbons, or look for something you think they'll reuse like this chic rattan basket from H&M.
Cozy socks or fluffy slippers are a mainstay of the 'burr basket'. These Italian yarn blend socks from The Six Bells are sure to make their day a little brighter (and warmer).
There is plenty of research to encourage the idea that keeping a journal helps with reducing stress and boosting your mood. This daily gratitude journal is a simple yet powerful way to help a loved one relax.
Crafted in the softest sherpa, this Fireside throw has been designed with reversible contrasting sides and can even be monogrammed for the perfect personalized gift.
Nail the bow Christmas decor trend with this ever-so-cute, vintage-inspired ceramic match holder from Urban Outfitters. Plus, it comes with 25 color-coordinating matches.
A throw pillow is an optional addition to the basket but makes for a lovely touch. Keep it something neutral and you can't go wrong. This Velvet Clover Pillow will bring a playful edge to their pillowscaping.
It wouldn't be Christmas without candles and these icon taper candles from Anthropologie are the cozy girls answer to their beloved, viral icon glassware. I love the candy cane design, but there's a Christmas tree iteration too.
Now you can certainly go mad and throw in a load of lip balms and sheet masks, but I love the idea of something more indulgent like these Shower Steamers that give off a relaxing scent of organic citrus to uplift their spirit.
Hot cocoa sachets are an inexpensive addition to the 'burr basket' to help satisfy their sweet tooth over the holidays. With 12 individual packets, this packet will set them up for a rather yummy winter.
I think a really nice, good-quality mug is always a great gift idea. This set of matching Christmas mugs has been designed with Joanna Gaines' Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia for Target to help you get her signature style for less.
Personally, I'd love to receive a coffee table book or two this Christmas. Shea McGee's The Art of Home was an instant New York Times bestseller, taking you through every room of the house with her expert tips.
When shopping for candles, I always try to go one step further and pick a scent that really speaks to my giftee. For example, Happiness by Neom was actually my own wedding scent and will always remind me of the happiest day.
Encourage a little crafternoon with a nifty kit like this paint-by-numbers set that depicts a pretty holiday-themed bookstore. You could also add in a crochet kit, or pottery kit for some much-needed craft therapy.
Whether you’re creating a self-care-inspired basket, a movie-night kit, or a holiday treat hamper, this viral gifting idea is as simple as it is sumptuous: a cozy, curated basket filled with holiday treats, plush textures, and soothing self-care goodies. Will you be creating a 'burr basket' this Christmas?
