The bobbin furniture trend has been around since the 17th century, and is a type of timeless, baroque-style furniture that instantly elevates a space. It’s also known as spool furniture, and gets its name from having legs and other parts lathe-turned to ornamental shapes. Bobbin furniture's intricate shapes can elevate interiors from ordinary to extraordinary, and they allow for so much playfulness.

‘Thanks to Instagram, Pinterest, and cyclical interior design ebbs and flows, bobbin furniture is enjoying the spotlight,’ says New York City-based interior designer Tyler Del Vento. ‘While bobbin furniture is associated with traditional craftsmanship and heritage, mixing it with contemporary pieces is an interesting juxtaposition of styles. I recently installed a vintage bobbin console table in a hallway that was a bland, pass-through space without any personality. But given there was only going to be one piece of furniture, I needed it to be a focal point that added warmth, character, and a vintage touch. Bobbin was perfect for that.’

These days, most of my favorite home retailers are participating in the bobbin interior design trend, but adding in unique materials, shapes, angles, and colors that allow for a contemporary take. I’ve scoured them all, and narrowed it down to the best bobbin furniture for your home, no matter whether you’re looking for something traditional or contemporary.
