Reese Witherspoon demonstrates impressive yoga moves – but we're distracted by her coastal chic porch furniture
The actress' favorite yoga spot is an unrivaled source of back porch design inspiration – with one, trend-setting focal point taking all the attention
Legally Blonde actress Reese Witherspoon may be synonymous with Elle Wood's iconic pink wardrobe – but her interiors (or exteriors, in this case) are notably more neutral.
Residing in leafy Brentwood, California, the Louisiana native has curated a serene family home that offers respite from her hectic schedule – and this includes her neutral-hued back porch. The space in question is designed as a yoga space – complete with a stylish white-painted roof and the best outdoor furniture. Stand-out pieces include the hanging rattan lamps that give the space a contemporary yet slightly retro aesthetic (and tap into one of the biggest garden trends for 2023).
While Reese's back porch offers a lot to admire, however, one feature, her rope swing couches, demands nearly all of our attention.

In the footage (above), Reese is practicing yoga on the porch, and while we're inevitably taking notes on her moves – we can't help but be distracted by the rope swing couches – and how she has styled them symmetrically. It appears that the actress has two of the same couches, facing one another and crowned with the same rattan garden lights.
The actress has styled the white chairs with a selection of blue and white cushions –creating a nautical aesthetic that continues to endure inside and outside the home. With the rustic-style rope and clean color scheme alongside the white-painted roof, the space is the source of coastal decor inspiration – with a retro twist.
Replicating Reese's look begins with the wooden rope swing (we've found a similar alternative below). There is also, however, a lot to be said about her use of symmetry and rattan lighting – the latter of which is especially favored by exterior designers.

Reese has opted for a blue, white, and cream scheme, and one of her pillows combines these tones together. We found one similar, so you can enjoy a similar coastal aesthetic.
'When choosing the style of your outdoor furniture, it’s best to consider the overall look you want to achieve and how you’re planning to use your outdoor space. Aluminum is best for those wanting to achieve a contemporary look, whereas rattan is perfect for achieving a more traditional style,' says Moda Furnishings' design team.
Before investing in any light like Reese's, the team explains that rattan comes in a variety of styles, weaves, and materials – all of which vary 'drastically' in quality. So, if you're looking for outdoor pieces like Reese's, it's essential to pick the type that will withstand the elements.
'PE is a synthetic polyethylene resin that opposes a natural wicker rattan. Unlike natural rattan, PE rattan is far more durable and, as a result, requires less maintenance; it is also capable of handling much more unfriendly weather with minimal wear and tear,' the experts say.
Meanwhile, with natural wicker rattan, you will need to keep your furniture inside and likely treat it to maximize its longevity.
Let this season be the start of an outdoor coastal revival, inspired by Reese, naturally.
