Inside Kate Hudson's living room – where rustic Mediterranean style meets a modern LA aesthetic
With its textured wall and statement houseplant – the space blends timeless neutrals with contemporary furnishings and on-trend accessories
Actress Kate Hudson is (rightly) associated with maximalism – a style she often experiments with in her Pacific Palisades residence. However, a glimpse inside her living space suggests the actress is also no stranger to a more rustic, minimalist aesthetic.
Kate's old childhood home, where she lived with her mother, actress Goldie Hawn, is a shrine of audacious patterned wallpaper, frills, and vintage furnishings (not least in her chintz-covered bathroom). Though, when it comes to her living room colors, furnishings, and accessories, things are notably more pared back.
Exhibiting a textured, off-white painted wall, curated-gold accents, and a curved sofa, the actress's living space is a new, unexpected source of minimalist inspiration – combining Mediterranean-style features with soothing Californian design trends.

Pictured in an almost-color-drenched space, Kate has mastered decorating with neutrals – choosing a rug and curved sofa that complement her cream walls. We've already seen curved furniture of all kinds topping trend reports in recent seasons – but their enduring presence at Salone Del Mobile 2023 (the world's largest furniture fair and trove of Italian furniture trends) suggests this shape is more than a fleeting fad.
'At Salone Del Mobile, statement chairs featured heavily – they spanned large circular snuggle-on chairs to Loewe's chairs covered in foil, not to mention Dolce and Gabbana's Oro 24K collection that pays homage to the craftsmanship of the Italian baroque period,' says Lucy Mather Arighi Bianchi. 'Curves continue to trend in interiors, and these chairs are a great way to get the look at home.'
While we would (of course) love to bring these pieces home from Milan, we're more than happy to invest in this Kate Hudson-inspired piece below.
Created by esteemed designer Leanne Ford, this curved sofa is the perfect 'kidney bean' shape that continues to be so sought-after among designers. Striking for its sculptural curves, the piece offers a seat that finds a balance between formal and lounge-friendly.
Paint and furniture aside, Kate's accessories are just as inspiring. Perhaps most notably, the actress has interrupted her color-drenched scheme with a very tall and leafy statement house plant. It's hard to tell precisely which species Kate has chosen, but for a similar look, we're looking towards a weeping fig (ficus benjamin) which has the same commanding presence. There are lots of varieties available here on The Sill – so you can find the best-sized one for your space.

Kate further accentuates the space with this decorative butterfly screen near her fireplace and a mirror with a minimalist gold frame.
With its sleek gold frame, this mirror is a perfect dupe to the one seen in Kate's living room. We love the minimalist look against her textured white wall, but we're sure this versatile piece will look effortless anywhere.
While we will always love Kate's maximalist spaces (honorable mention to her powder room), we're equally excited to see the actress play more with neutrals – especially when it looks this good.
