This designer secret will revolutionize how you think about decorating small spaces
Alidad reveals how to ‘turn your small space into something special’ – to create a timeless home
When it comes to creating a timeless small space, you could do far worse than following the advice of Alidad.
The award-winning international designer and founder of the eponymous studio sat down with H&G to discuss the power of a compact space – and how putting time into a small room can elevate your entire home.
The secret, Alidad shares, is to treat this space as you would with every other room of your home.
Sharing his interior design tips in the video below, Alidad explains that a home can exist in any sized space – so tackling small space design is key to a happy home. Whether you live in an urban apartment or you’re looking for inspiring small living room ideas, his advice will revolutionize your space.
Alidad’s small space design secret
‘When your home is in order, it doesn’t matter how big or small it is. When your home is in order, you can live properly,’ Alidad begins.
‘If you’re living in a small home, why aren’t you proud of it? Make it as nice as your can. There is no difference between a shack and a palace because the way you should decorate them is the same.’
Similarly, Alidad suggests that the ‘vocabulary of design’ is the same, so you should focus on the look what you to achieve – rather than the size.

‘A small home, made of one room, is the same as one room in a palace. It’s absolutely the same thing – just much simpler. You can turn that room into something completely different than what it was,’ Alidad adds.
‘When you turn your small space into something special, it can make such a difference to your everyday life. It’s going to give you energy; it’s going to boost you up. Everything is going to change.’
So, whether you’re experimenting with a small apartment living room, small entryway, or guest bedroom, Alidad’s advice remains the same. When you’re next decorating a small room – focus not on the size – but your ability to transform your home ideas for good.
