When you shop the November bedding sales, you can upgrade your bed on a budget. I've found deep discounts on sheets, shams, quilts, comforters, and pillows to suit every style of bedroom and every size of budget.

Black Friday isn't for another few weeks, but some of the best places to buy bedding are already dropping deals in anticipation of the big day. Specialist sleep stores are launching their Early Access sales and Amazon are beginning to cut their prices, though I'm expecting them to fall further as we approach Black Friday. Out of all the months in the year, November marks the best time to buy bedding on a budget.

Before I specialized as a sleep writer, I was a price tracker. I spent eight hours a day surfing the sites of major merchants, monitoring their prices. Now, I lead a team of expert testers in the search to find the best bedding at the fairest price. With so much listed for so little, it can be difficult to know where to start.

Most of the bamboo sheet sets you see online are made from bamboo viscose or bamboo/polyester blends. These sets are cheaper, but they're far less sustainable than the real thing. That's why I'm so glad to see an $80 on bamboo lyocell sheets, which are free from harmful chemicals and plastics and treated with food-grade, non-toxic solvents. They're great for eco-conscious shoppers and anyone with sensitive skin.

Cozy Earth Bamboo Comforter | Was $419.00, now $293.30 at Cozy Earth

Cozy Earth Bamboo Comforter | Was $419.00, now $293.30 at Cozy Earth

Even with an $120 discount, the Cozy Earth Bamboo Comforter is still pretty expensive, but that's the price you pay for organic materials. Plus, bamboo boasts all sorts of natural health benefits: it's hypoallergenic to soothe your skin and antimicrobial to bust bacteria. Like any down alternative duvet insert, it lacks a little loft, but bamboo makes a far more sustainable substitute than polyester or microfiber.

Like I said, I love an adjustable pillow, but they can get messy. Oftentimes, during testing, I find myself searching for somewhere to store surplus fluff or an extra insert. You don't have to do that with the Marlow Pillow – just push and pull the zippers to let air into and out of the pillow.

FAQs

Why is bedding so expensive?

Not all bedding is expensive, but I take your point: it can be hard to justify spending hundreds of dollars on sheets and shams. That's why I tend to steer clear of the luxury design houses, where you're paying less for a product and more for a brand name.

As H&G's resident sleep writer, I'm often asked: 'how much should I spend on sheets?' My golden rule is somewhere between $50 - $200 for a Queen. The best bedding should be reasonably priced, when you consider the time and money that goes into making it. You're paying for premium fabrics, artisan craftsmanship, and timeless style.

If you're tight on time and money, and you need new bedding at a cut price, your best bet is a set of the best affordable bed sheets. Bedding bundles from big-name brands, such as Saatva and Sijo, deliver premium performance without the premium price tag.

When is the best time to buy bedding?

The best time to buy bedding is Black Friday: that's when you'll see the greatest breadth of deals and depth of discounts. A lot of stores open up Early Access sales at the start of November and extend them into the first week of December, so you've got plenty of time to shop for Black Friday bedding deals.

When you're shopping a major sales event, it pays to keep your wits about you. Remember: If a deal looks too good to be true, then you might be paying for a low price on a poor product.

If you've got expensive taste, be sure to shop the luxury bedding sales at Bloomingdale's. I've never seen such deep discounts on bedding sets from Sferra, Frette, and Matouk.
