Benjamin Moore has revealed its 2022 Color of the Year as October Mist (1495) – an organic hue with metallic undertones reminiscent of the silver-sage green stem of a flower.

This year, the Benjamin Moore team were forced to brainstorm the Color of the Year 2022 virtually, Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore Director of Color Marketing & Development reveals. And while it was more challenging, it did reset the team's thinking – paint trends are often influenced by outside forces; for 2022, they were more focused on self-expression and a craving for individuality.

And this soft, relaxing green does just that – purposefully acting as a bridge for other tones in Benjamin Moore’s Color Trends palette, which includes 14 harmonious hues in all.

‘As our homes continue to evolve and we explore and express our own individualities, it was important this year that the Color of the Year serves different functions and styles,’ explains the Director Benjamin Moore UK, Helen Shaw.

‘October Mist and the surrounding palette reflects the natural environment and draws on inspiration from calmer surroundings – whilst also allowing the user to create an abundance of unique combinations for any paint project.’

And it does just that: sitting beautifully at the heart of the Color Trends palette, October Mist works well with every Benjamin Moore shade, from Quiet Moments, a subtle green-blue to Pale Yellow.

Unlike many color trends, October Mist can be used in a variety of ways – but, importantly as a new neutral, like gray.

Of course, it can be used to ground a room – perhaps as the most calming of living room paint ideas – but Magno's team also sees it going further – ideal for painting kitchen cabinets, as an accent color for doors and woodwork, and on hallway walls to seamlessly connect different spaces.

While it is impossible to predict future interior design trends, one thing is clear. October Mist’s allure will endure long beyond October.
