7 kitchen flooring trends you'll be seeing everywhere in 2025, say interior designers
Give your kitchen flooring the upgrade it deserves with these on-trend designs

Kitchen flooring usually falls into two categories: tile and wood. But there is such a broad range to choose from, it can be a tricky decision to make. This is where kitchen flooring trends come into play.
From wood tones and layouts to tile patterns, colors, and finishes, this year's kitchen trends are blending unique design with timeless appeal – the perfect balance for kitchen flooring that feels on-trend while still standing the test of time.
To find out which kitchen flooring trends will be big for 2025, we've asked designers for the designs they're most excited about and how to seamlessly introduce them to your scheme.
The kitchen flooring trends to know about for 2025
Your kitchen flooring isn't something you change often – it's a big job and often a large investment into your space. So, choosing the right materials and layout is an important decision and one you don't want to get wrong. While there are a few dated kitchen flooring trends to avoid, there are plenty that are very much in style and worth considering.
1. Hardwood kitchen flooring
For a while now, tiles and wood flooring alternatives have prevailed in kitchen designs for their ease of cleaning and maintenance, but a more traditional option is making a strong comeback this year.
'Hardwood floors are a staple in our kitchen projects because they allow the house to flow more seamlessly and provide warmth in a space dominated by hard finishes. Hardwood flooring is timeless and softer underfoot than a stone or tile,' says Elle Cantrell, owner and lead designer at Elle Du Monde.
This kitchen is a beautiful example of how hardwood flooring can instantly add warmth to a kitchen. Paired with the white cabinets and the slightly darker wood island, the space feels inviting and cohesive.
2. Rustic flooring options
Hardwood isn't the only natural flooring option. If you want something that feels timeless but with a more rustic appeal, this kitchen flooring trend ticks all the right boxes.
'Traditionally, the go-to approach has been to extend hardwood flooring from adjacent spaces like the living room into the kitchen for a cohesive look. However, in 2025, I see that norm evolving,' says Stacy Becker, president and director of design at White Label Interiors.
'Homeowners are increasingly exploring opportunities to introduce complementary flooring materials that add depth and character to their kitchens. For instance, in a European-inspired mini chalet we’re designing, we’re opting for rustic brick flooring. Not only does it offer exceptional durability, but its rich texture also enhances the layered, timeworn aesthetic that defines a truly rustic home.'
3. Playful yet timeless patterns
This year's kitchen flooring trends leave plenty of space for more playful designs. If you want to add pattern and color to your scheme, classic tiles are a great choice.
'We’re seeing a rise in colorful, vibrant interiors, as more consumers and interior design studios look to revamp spaces beyond neutral, pared-back palettes,' says Louisa Alice, creative director at Mosaic Factory.
'Flooring is an investment, so it’s important to choose a style you’ll love for years to come – not just because it’s trending. That doesn't mean playing it safe; geometric cement tiles, checkerboard patterns, or colorful terrazzo bring personality and stand the test of time.'
4. Textural materials
Textured designs have been dominating kitchen trends this year. Most recently, fluted kitchen cabinets have risen in popularity, and this desire for more tactile, textured finishes is creeping into flooring trends, too.
'In 2025, kitchen flooring trends will focus on sustainability, durability, and design impact. Warm earth tones and natural wood hues will take center stage, bringing a cozy, organic feel to kitchens,' says Mitra Shahi, principal designer at Shahi Design Group.
'Textured tiles are gaining popularity, offering a natural and tactile alternative to traditional smooth surfaces. Options like fluted and ribbed details, softly weathered edges, and natural stone-inspired finishes will bring depth and character to kitchen spaces.'
5. Flooring that seamlessly blends with cabinetry
Wooden kitchens are back in a big way, but it's not always easy to know the right flooring to pair with it. But this year's kitchen flooring trend championing a seamless blend between the floor and cabinets makes it a much easier choice.
'In 2025, kitchen flooring trends will emphasize seamless integration, natural warmth, and durability. This kitchen exemplifies the trend with a cohesive design where the flooring blends effortlessly with the cabinetry, creating a clean, unified aesthetic,' says Ishita Lalan, principal designer at Ishita Interiors.
'The light wood-look Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) flooring mirrors the natural tones of the cabinets, reinforcing a warm and organic ambiance. It eliminates harsh breaks, making the kitchen feel larger and more open and the wood-look finish adds warmth while maintaining a minimalist, contemporary feel.'
6. Natural, organic aesthetics
In the past, more polished kitchen flooring styles have been favored for their sleek look, but this year's trends are embracing more natural, rustic finishes for a timeless design.
'For 2025, kitchen flooring is all about warmth, durability, and natural looks. Light wood tones, large tiles, and textured finishes like hand-scraped or wire-brushed wood are in. Waterproof options like luxury vinyl and engineered wood are also popular since they offer the look of real wood but are easier to maintain,' says Bita Pirooz, of KBF Audi.
If you prefer tiles over wooden flooring, there are some beautifully natural options proving popular. 'Antiqued limestone and granite flooring will continue to rise in popularity as the stark modern farmhouse aesthetic shifts back toward its more authentic roots,' says Stacy.
'The growing demand for patina and honest materials is exactly what I was hoping to see. Exquisite Surfaces offers some beautiful real stone options, while Statements Tile has impressive porcelain alternatives for a more budget-friendly choice,' she adds.
7. Interesting layouts with inlays and borders
There are always certain patterns trending in tiles and layouts for wood. This year, herringbone wooden flooring continues to prove a popular choice.
'Kitchen flooring in 2025 is about adding character and definition to the space. We're seeing wooden herringbone become a popular choice to break up the standard hardwood floor pattern. You'll see more square check patterns making the retro look chic,' says Sallie Lord, of GreyHunt Interiors.
It's not just the flooring material itself to look out for, but how you add unique style and a seamless finish to your design. 'Also, look out for inlays in floors and borders to break up and define spaces,' says Sallie.
From tiles to wood to natural stone, this year's kitchen flooring trends offer a variety of designs that are timeless, unique, and full of personality. If you're wondering should you choose wooden or tile kitchen flooring, opt for the material that best suits your kitchen style, or get to grips with the different stone flooring types to see if something more natural is a better fit.
