Inside Shea McGee's Summit Estate – an elegant mountainside project that blends grand architecture with hushed cozy interiors
Shea McGee has mixed the old and new by creating a sophisticated chalet-inspired property that sits right at the heart of the mountains

Nestled within the mountain ranges of Park City, Utah, you'll find the Summit Estate. Designed by Shea McGee, the property is the perfect holiday retreat that's effortlessly sophisticated yet traditional, nodding to the classic cozy cabin style as well as the serene natural setting.
Through blending contemporary design with characterful pieces, Shea creates a chic family home that nods to classic cabin decor but doesn't feel cliché. From wood paneling to cozy plush furniture, it's an enviable destination for skiers looking to relax and unwind after a long day.
Lucky for us, we got to take a peek at each room in the estate, so let us tour you around the property.
The entryway
Shea has created a simple yet classic entryway idea and has cleverly represented the rustic style of the Summit Estate, welcoming guests and nodding to the overarching inspiration behind the house.
A large wooden table dominates the space, grouding the open room and creating to prefect spot for a vignette. Shea builds layers of texture by opting for a rustic stoneware vase, an ornate bowl, and a pair of wavy iron candlesticks, providing the table with varied height and materials. The wood ties in with the rest of the home and nods to the natural inspiration behind the design. Paired with the exposed brick walls, it's an organic and rustic welcome that provides a sometimes neglected area with warmth.
Following the unexpected red theory, Shea has placed a chic velvet bench in the entrway, providing guests with comfy seating and adding a pop of rich color to the otherwise neutral scheme.
The living room
Shea's interiors can often be pinpointed due to their instantly recognizable qualities that connect to the modern rustic style. The living room in the Summit Estate honors Shea's signature look, filled with warmth and texture while still feeling elevated and sophisticated.
Embracing the expansive architecture, Shea has let the features do the talking by decorating with neutrals and keeping the decor relatively simple. Acknowledging the room's wooden beams, floors, and door frames, she's incorporated hues that pair with warm brown, opting for a spectrum of neutral soft furnishings and furniture. To bring some color to the scheme, Shea has added a pair of muted blue ottomans that tie in with the bar's cabinetry tucked away at the back.
There's plenty of seating to choose from. Shea has been practical with this approach and has also considered the effect of layers of soft textures. They all come together to bring textural variety and their plush finishes make the space feel cozy and inviting.
The kitchen diner
The kitchen and dining area is one of the most impressive rooms in the Summit Estate. There are a few reasons why this space is so impactful, but most importantly, Shea has let the architectural features shine by allowing them to inspire the design of the space.
Providing us with dark green kitchen ideas, Shea has fitted green cabinetry around the side of the kitchen, allowing the exposed brick to take center stage and frame the space. The rustic shelving adds to the kitchen's earthy charm and nods to the classic farmhouse style.
You'll notice Shea has mixed different wood tones throughout the house, showing that she's not afraid to pair varying hues side-by-side. Considering the wood ceiling and floor in the dining room, Shea has opted for a statement dining table that brings a sense of grandeur and nods to the room's architecture. Going for the classic chalet vibe that matches the Estate's mountainous setting, she's fitted an impressive vintage-style candelabra that hangs from the ceiling.
The pantry
Straying from typical pantry ideas, Shea has shown us how to decorate with burgundy by covering the room in an unexpected deep oxblood shade. We love that she hasn't neglected the (typically mundane) pantry, transforming it into an irresistibly chic statement.
Always ahead of the trends, Shea has followed the color-drenching trend and fitted various gold accents alongside the deep red, adding to the room's luxury. She's considered every detail and paired the oxblood red with a classic navy hue for the cupboards, making the space feel oh-so-sophisticated. Pair these rich shades with the marble countertops and the leather handles, it's safe to say that Shea has made every little nook in the Summit Estate feel inspired, high-end, and inviting.
The bar
The first of the two bars in the Summit Estate is the living room bar area, tucked away at the back of the room.
Providing us with home bar ideas, Shea cleverly utilized space by adding this handy addition that allows hosts to pour drinks from the comfort of their living room. She really has considered the owner's needs by ensuring each room is both stylish and practical.
Although part of the same room, the wood door frame makes the bar feel separate from the living room, tucked away behind the beam. But to ensure it doesn't feel too incongruous, Shea has placed a duo of velvet armchairs in front of the area, opening up the space and allowing guests to sit and chat. The metallic open shelves and marble countertops add to the luxuriousness of the space and make the bar feel irresistibly chic and effortless.
The master bedroom
Like most of the Summit Estate, the bedroom has been designed in unison with the beautiful scenery surrounding the property. With such impressive views, it can be easy to neglect the decor and let the outside do all the talking, but Shea has used it as inspiration for the bedroom idea.
Continuing with the wood theme, Shea has incorporated a grand canopy bed, a choice that lives up to the impactful views outside. The bedroom features a warm color scheme balanced by the cool gray wall color, a subtle pairing that nods to the mountain ranges around the Summit Estate.
Like many of the rooms in the estate, Shea has used layers of soft textures to make the space feel cozy and welcoming. The wool throws, velvet throw pillows, plush carpet, and boucle chair come together to make the bedroom feel luxuriously soft and tactile. In classic Shea fashion, she brings a vintage vibe by incorporating a midcentury-inspired leather bench at the end of the bed adding to the room's various textures and sophisticated feel.
The master bathroom
There are several beautifully finished bathrooms in the Summit Estate, but with such jaw-dropping views of Park City's mountain ranges, the master bathroom is undoubtedly our favorite.
A prime alpine bathroom idea, Shea has designed the bathroom according to the architecture, positioning the freestanding bathtub beside the window, allowing one to sit and soak up the views. But despite the room's grandeur, it still feels relaxed and airy as Shea has continued to incorporate natural materials, like the wood side table and bath rack that nod to the chalet style of the estate.
Shea has gone for a relatively minimal bathroom, incorporating neutral decor and sparingly adding some gold accents that elevate the space while providing warmth.
The guest bedroom
There are three guest bedrooms in the Summit Estate, but Shea has made the first space feel invitingly snug and sophisticated by following neutral bedroom ideas.
Shea has been clever in layering warm browns, not overwhelming or darkening the room but instead bringing warmth and a sense of calm, key qualities for a guest bedroom. To ensure the room feels individual yet still part of the estate's overall design, Shea has decorated it with similar materials and furniture, like the leather bench in the master suite and the layers of organic bedding.
The guest bedroom embraces the warm minimalist trend and proves that a room can feel cozy and inviting without using tons of decor and furniture.
The office
It might be hard to imagine working in such a serene ski spot, but it's clear that Shea has considered all the owner's needs by incorporating this cozy, wood-paneled home office in the design of the Summit Estate.
Cozy home office ideas can be hard to nail, but the wood paneling and dark blue shelving make the space feel irresistibly snug, tying in with the alpine style of the home. The rustic decor adds a country charm that breaks up the bulk of the wood, providing layers of texture and color on top of the paneling.
There are plenty of subtle motifs scattered throughout the space, from the mountain landscape hanging at the center to the mini frames positioned on the shelves, all nod to the property's beautiful location, ensuring that even the office feels authentic and connects to the overarching design theme.
The mudroom
Straying from the neutral and moody shades used throughout the house, Shea has opted for an unexpected yet uplifting butter-yellow hue for the mudroom idea. Providing warmth and vibrancy, the yellow reinvents the mundane room, giving it a whole new meaning.
Despite feeling different from the other rooms, the wood paneling nods to the chalet style of the property, bringing warmth and character. The woven baskets slotted underneath the bench bring some textural interest and are a clever storage idea that can house any outdoor skiing essentials.
The bunk room
The bunk room is something out of a Nancy Meyers movie with its wood-paneled bunks and matching plaid bedding. It's perhaps one of the most traditional rooms in the house and embraces the chalet style in a playful way.
The vintage skis hung above the beds nod to the setting and bring a vintage charm to the space. The yellow sconces contrast against the muted blue wall color, bringing a sense of fun and whimsy that's perfect for the kids' room.
The wood ladders subtly nod to the rest of the house and provide some variety against the blue paneling. We couldn't help but notice the clever storage slotted underneath the beds, perfect for storing away clothes and toys and keeping the room tidy.

The Summit Estate is a lesson is creating a home that feels both elegant and elevated and cozy and welcoming. It embraces traditional cabin decor in all the right ways, but still leans into Shea's iconic modern rustic style.
