If you're a follower of the latest paint trends, you'll be well acquainted with paint brands' annual Color of the Year announcements, inspired by evolving consumer trends, but what about a Color of the Century? That's exactly what Dunn-Edwards has unveiled with a brand new blue-green paint.

Named Viridian Odyssey, this rich and timeless paint color celebrates 100 years of Dunn-Edwards and has been carefully curated to reflect the major color trends from past decades, where color experts at the paint brand noted blue and green as continually popular.

While Viridian Odyssey takes cues from the past and makes a clear pivot from its much softer Dunn-Edwards Color of the Year, it feels perfectly fitting for decorating homes in 2025. Most notably, it's an 'in-between' paint color (combining both blue and green) which is one of the most stylish paint trends right now, adding more interest and depth to spaces than more traditional colors.

Decorating with teal boasts another major quality especially fitting for 2025: a calming and natural-world-inspired feel. With its tones of both blue and green, Viridian Odyssey appears restful while its dark tones give it a sophisticated and almost moody look.

There are many ways to embrace dark paints like Viridian Odyssey, but we'd say that the best way to make the most of this opulent hue is to use it in small rooms with color drenching. Fully encapsulating the space, this blue-green will create a cozy and cocooning atmosphere, making it a great choice for snug rooms, small home offices, and powder rooms.

'Since 1925, Dunn-Edwards has been dedicated to shaping the world of paint, color, and design, and Viridian Odyssey has been there all along – symbolizing life, growth, and resilience with an understated elegance deeply rooted in the nature surrounding us,' says Lauren Hoferkamp, Lead Color Expert at Dunn-Edwards. 'While the Color of the Century honors the past and everything that’s brought us to this point, it also symbolizes a readiness for the next 100 years.'

Serving us more room color ideas for the months ahead, Dunn-Edwards has simultaneously announced that every three weeks throughout 2025 from February 11, it is set to unveil a new 'decade-inspired' color palette, each reflecting various historical styles.

'As we celebrate a century of leadership in paint quality, color, and design, Dunn-Edwards is setting its sights on the future. Building on our legacy of excellence, we are reimagining what the next 100 years of color innovation will look like,' says Lauren Hoferkamp. 'Our 2025 designer-selected palettes are a tribute to this vision, blending the timeless beauty of the past with the promise of the future. These palettes encapsulate the spirit of evolution – where nostalgia harmonizes with optimism, and the artistry of design is elevated by cutting-edge technology.'

While there's no doubt that this teal paint makes a stylish and sophisticated paint color for the year ahead, there are plenty of other trending shades to try. Paint brands' Color of the Year reveals cater to all decorating styles, from earthy tones that suit minimalist decor ideas to vibrant purples that go hand in hand with maximalist decor ideas.
