15 of the best places to shop for Christmas decor, as suggested by interior designers
On the hunt for Christmas decor? These are designers' go-to shopping destinations
Decorators Address Book is a monthly series in which our Interior Design team finds out where designers like to browse and shop for their projects. Each edition focuses on a different element of home decor to bring you the best expert-recommended stores.
With Christmas just around the corner, our November edition of Decorator's Address Book is all about the best places to shop for Christmas decor. We asked a range of interior designers for their go-to shopping destinations to source holiday decor, which we've rounded up below.
From vintage stores to firm favorite online brands, these destinations are bound to help you source the most stylish and festive decorations this year – whether you're on the hunt for traditional Christmas garlands or quirky tree decorations.
1. Terrain
Kerry Jacobs, founder and principal designer at Manor & Woods
'My favorite holiday shopping destination is Terrain. The Westport, CT location transforms into a winter wonderland, adorned with twinkling lights, rich textures, and a warm atmosphere. As soon as you step inside, you’re transported into a sensory holiday experience. Cozy nooks are filled with tantalizing tableware, stunning live terrariums, vibrant cashmere throws, candles, and ornaments, making it the ultimate spot for festive shopping.'
2. Online vintage marketplaces
Darla Bankston May, founder of Bankston May Associates
'We enjoy finding unique, retro Christmas decor on online vintage marketplaces like 1stDibs, Chairish, and eBay. For fresh touches, local garden centers are perfect for sourcing pepper berry sprigs, garlands, and seasonal greenery.'
3. CB2
Nadia Watts, founder of Nadia Watts Interior Design
'CB2 offers a modern whimsical aesthetic and their holiday decor is right on point. Playful and artful, the holiday items are easy to incorporate into any decor style. The price is right, the quality is good and the designs are elegant and simple to last the test of time.'
4. Bergdorf Goodman
Allison Mattison, principal and head designer at Trellis Home Design
'New York is fabulous during the festive season and Bergdorf Goodman is a magical destination for Christmas decor. Each year, their holiday displays inspire creativity and elegance, turning shopping into a festive experience.
'With everything from opulent ornaments to richly detailed garlands, Bergdorf’s decor selection brings quality and artistry into your home. The beautifully decorated store and upscale ambiance make holiday shopping feel special, adding an extra touch of joy and sophistication to the season.'
5. Antique stores
Alexis Woodbury Earman of The Woodbury Home
'Vintage pieces are being mixed more and more with modern decor. They bring a unique ‘one of a kind’ feel that can only be achieved through thrift shopping or antique stores.
'This is why during the holiday season, I absolutely adore looking for decor in antique shops. I’ve been able to find stunning ornaments, authentic brass Christmas bells, and thick luxurious bows and ribbons to add to my tree.'
6. P.O.S.H.
Tom Riker, founder of James Thomas
'We absolutely love shopping for holiday decor at P.O.S.H. in Chicago. Nestled in the historic Tree Studio building on the city’s near north side, this charming boutique is owned by a team that scours estate sales and flea markets across Europe for unique treasures.'
'By blending their unique finds with carefully curated new items, they create the perfect destination for holiday shopping – whether you’re looking for a thoughtful hostess gift or a clever ornament for your tree.'
7. Afloral
Alexis Woodbury Earman of The Woodbury Home
'Afloral is one of my favorite brands to shop for Christmas wreaths, seasonal branches, flowers, and more. They do a magnificent job of focusing on full house decor items for Christmas, which allows me to create a truly magical atmosphere for the holiday.'
8. Patch NYC
Nadia Watts, founder of Nadia Watts Interior Design
'PATCH NYC is one of my all-time favorite places to shop for accessories and decor, and the Christmas decor is no exception. PATCH NYC is beautifully curated with unique finds that you won't find anywhere else.
'If you are looking to find PATCH NYC's signature stylish creations, look for their collaborations; they have some amazing collaborations including Target, Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel, and West Elm. Whimsical and relevant, they truly have the best selection of artistic and unique finds.'
9. Balsam Hill
Brynn Olson, founder and design principal at Brynn Olson Design Group
'Balsam Hill offers exquisite, high-end ornaments that add a touch of elegance to any holiday display. We prefer a curated, 'collected' holiday look – mixing pieces from different sources, rather than buying an entire set from a retail store. Antique finds, even if they're not specifically holiday-themed, can easily be transformed into festive treasures when paired with other seasonal items.'
10. The Antique & Artisan Center
Cindy Rinfret, principal designer at Rinfret Ltd.
'I really love shopping at The Antique & Artisan Center in Stamford, CT. The owner, Mari Ann Maher, and her team decorate the store so festively and fill it with great and unique Christmas decorating items from around the world. They also have fabulous jewelry, silver, antiques, art, and gifts.
'It is a perfect destination to find stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, and that unique and special item for your favorite person. The Antique & Artisan Center is my 'go-to' place at the holidays.'
11. Local garden shops
Caroline Gidiere of Caroline Gidiere Design
'My favorite place to shop for Christmas decor is the garden shop! I love to fill my house with pots and bowls of paperwhite bulbs and amaryllis, hang a boxwood wreath over the mirrors, and drape the mantels with magnolia, fir, and pine. Once I have the tree up and my natural decorations in place, I find I need very little else besides a Trudon Angelo scented candle.'
12. MADISON
Cathy Kincaid of Cathy Kincaid Interiors
'My favorite place to shop for Christmas Decor is MADISON in Dallas. The store is like a trip to Santa’s workshop where every Christmas fantasy is imagined.'
