You can always rely on a lick of paint to spruce up a once-tired space. There are plenty of ways to use paint to uplift a room, but one stylish technique has been right at the center of recent trends.

The color-drenching trend has taken the interior design world by storm. It's an all-encompassing, sometimes dramatic look that covers a room from head to toe in one paint shade. We've been shouting about the trend for a while, but here we wanted to focus on one space we think pairs particularly well with the popular paint method – the bedroom.

To prove that bedroom color ideas pair perfectly with this chic yet saturated trend, we asked designers and paint experts for their all-time favorite color-drenched bedroom looks.

1. A moody master bedroom drenched in gray

There are plenty of bedroom paint ideas to follow when color-drenching a bedroom, but moody tones have long been favored due to their warming and sultry qualities. Interior designer Audrey Scheck, founder of Audrey Scheck Design, created this chic masterpiece that perfectly nails the color-drenching trend.

Audrey says, 'Color drenching is ideal for bedrooms because it creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The technique involves using the same color on the walls, ceiling, trim, and sometimes furniture, resulting in a seamless, unified look. It’s a timeless design approach that enhances the room’s depth and visual interest without feeling overwhelming.'

Despite its impact, color drenching can create a sense of serenity. Audrey explains, 'Drenching creates a calm, soothing environment perfect for rest and relaxation. If you are thinking of drenching your space, be sure to paint vent and recessed light covers so that they blend into the ceiling and/or walls. Regarding the finish, we prefer drenching rooms in one even finish so that the sheen reflects light on the color consistently.'

2. A relaxing sleep space that embraces blue

Blue is an unexpectedly popular paint shade and a staple bedroom color. Color-drenching with blue makes a space feel striking yet (surprisingly) elegant.

Following blue bedroom ideas, this playful look fully embraces the saturated paint trend, following a coordinated palette from the walls to the decor. 'Dark blues are a fantastic choice for bedrooms, they create depth and intimacy which is perfect for a cozy and soothing space to retreat and relax', says Ruth Mottershead, Creative Director at Little Greene. 'Using different blue hues on various elements with a ‘Double Drenching’ approach brings design interest to a bedroom, drawing the eye to architectural details whilst remaining calming and harmonious.'

To create the layered blue look pictured above Ruth suggests, 'Pair the rich Royal Navy on walls with a related blue such as deep indigo Dock Blue on the ceiling and a pop of striking, vibrant blue Smalt on the window frame or door for a sophisticated layered scheme. Each shade complements the other, creating a balanced and serene environment conducive to relaxation and sleep, whilst retaining character and personality.'

3. A snug haven wrapped in warm terracotta

‘Bedrooms are our own personal sanctuary, a space that should ooze comfort, tranquility and cosiness. Creating an inviting and relaxing bedroom scheme is all about layering texture, colour and pattern', continues Ruth.

Just like a fluffy duvet or a soft sheet set, color drenching provides a room with an instant hit of coziness by wrapping the room in a rich and velvety shade. While there are a few paint shades that have been proven to go hand-in-hand with the drenched look, terracotta hues are a sophisticated choice that will emulate an irresistible snug embrace.

'The best terracotta paints are usually those which are elegant and earthy, Split Pink (pictured above) is a wonderfully warm, pink hue that will add a homely and soothing feel to a space,' Ruth says. 'For a cohesive and contemporary feel, avoid combining with harsh bright white on skirting and woodwork. Instead, consider a color-drenching approach, or embrace darker tones and opt for a coordinated color such as warm grey-brown or more dramatic deep blues and greens.'

4. A serene all-white boudoir

Proven to be one of the best bedroom colors for sleep, warm neutrals are a timeless and relaxing color choice. Designed to soothe you in the evening and uplift you in the morning, they've long been loved for their calming qualities.

This white bedroom is a minimalist lover's dream. The ceiling and walls are drenched in a warm white shade, continued with the delicate cream bed canopy and painted furniture. This peaceful boudoir is an example of the warm minimalist trend, while it's pared-back in its contents, it still feels refined and cozy.

Helen Shaw, Director of Marketing (International) at Benjamin Moore says, 'If you’re using a neutral palette, an off-white such as Glacier White as the base color will feel timeless, premium and elegant. Accessorize the room with textures such as stone, velvet, and dark woods for a truly elevated feel.'

A bonus is that color drenching makes small spaces look bigger, another reason that proves you should opt for the trend in your bedroom.

5. A sultry, head-to-toe purple bedroom

Albeit a little on the bold side, purple bedrooms are proving to be surprisingly chic, and definitely on the rise. Purple can provide a space with some much-needed decadence which works particularly well in a room designed for relaxing evening activities.

Andy Greenall, Head of Design at Paint & Paper Library says, 'Both consumers and designers are turning to colors that add drama and intrigue to a space, from neutrals in graduating shades which flow between rooms to more dramatic color pairings which create an instant sense of depth and deliver a richly layered interior.'

Referring to the image above, Andy says, 'Pair a luxuriant, deeply colored purple with a dramatic blue-purple to deliver an impactful, yet tonal scheme, that will feel both sumptuous and soothing, perfect for an indulgent bedroom.'

Andy also suggests that purple is one of the best colors to paint a ceiling. ' Bedrooms are one of the few rooms in the home where attention will more often be on the ceiling, rather than the walls as you lay in bed. Often painted white as a default, the color of this, the most expansive ‘wall’ in the room will radically alter the overall ambiance. A rich, darker purple is an excellent choice for a bedroom ceiling, where relaxation is key. The darker color will help create a calm, intimate ambiance, reducing light reflection and promoting the perfect atmosphere for unwinding and drifting off to sleep.'

We hope to see many saturated bedroom looks this year. Color-drenching makes any room feel warm and opulent however, its unbeatable coziness pairs particularly beautifully in a space designed for sleep.
