'In 2025, design is all about self-expression, and we’re seeing a shift toward vibrant, personality-filled spaces where color plays a huge role in setting the mood,' says designer Nadia Watts.

1. Terracotta

Terracotta decor feels aligned with core '80s color trends, working as the neutral color to ground the loud hues of this era. Here, designer Jennie Bishop of Bishop Studio explains how to style this '80s-inspired color stylishly without feeling outdated:

'The 1980s are making a serious comeback in interiors, and this space is proof that retro can feel fresh, not kitschy. Warm terracotta, dusty mauves, and golden ochres – all classic ‘80s hues – are reimagined here with rich textures, bold patterns, and an artsy wall treatment that feels totally custom.

'The curved chaise lounge? Peak ‘80s glam, but in a way that feels inviting rather than over-the-top. Layer in woven textiles and sculptural brass lighting, and you’ve got a space that nods to the past while feeling effortlessly modern.'

2. Soft pinks

Similarly, soft interpretations of decorating with pink are a gentle way to nod to '80s decor. 'For 2025, I see a return to block colors, particularly soft pinks, and deep greens, both of which nod to the '80s but feel completely fresh when used in a modern setting,' explains interior designer Melissa Read, creative director at Studio Burntwood.

'Soft pinks – not sugary pastels – but more muted, earthy shades, are becoming a popular choice for upholstery and even wall colors in contemporary spaces,' the designer adds.

'Purple is making a big comeback this year,' says designer Alexis Warren of Alexis Warren Designs. 'I have seen it in all of my fabric and wallpaper presentations recently. A pop of purple can pack an unexpected, exciting punch! My biggest tip would be to not shy away from it – start adding it in smaller doses to your rooms to create a color story around your house. It is a really versatile color that complements any room – there are so many variations.'
