When you make the most of the bedding sales, you can upgrade your bed on a budget. In the run-up to the Presidents' Day sales, I'm starting to see deep discounts on sheet sets, duvet inserts, and pillows from big-name brands and specialist sleep stores to suit every style of bedroom and every size of budget.

Out of all the months in the year, February is one of the best times to buy bedding on a budget. Many of the best places to buy bedding cut their prices in a bid to shift old stock for the new season. I'm starting to see early access sales for Presidents' Day, and I'm expecting more deals to drop later in the month.

Before I specialized as a sleep writer, I was a price tracker. I spent eight hours a day surfing the sites of major merchants, monitoring their prices. Now, I lead a team of expert testers in the search to find the best bedding at the fairest price. With so much listed for so little, it can be difficult to know where to start.

FAQs

What is a good price for bedding?

As H&G's resident sleep writer, I'm often asked: 'how much should I spend on sheets?' My golden rule is somewhere between $50 - $200 for a Queen. That should be enough to weed out the cheap fabrics and fills in favor of more sustainable materials. My advice: always check the care tag and scour the specifications to make sure you know where your money is going.

If you're tight on time and money, and you need new bedding at a cut price, your best bet is a set of the best affordable bed sheets. Bedding bundles from big-name brands, such as Saatva and Sijo, deliver premium performance without the premium price tag.

When is the best time to buy bedding?

The best time to buy bedding is Black Friday: that's when you'll see the greatest breadth of deals and depth of discounts. A lot of stores open up Early Access sales at the start of November and extend them into the first week of December, so you've got plenty of time to shop for Black Friday bedding deals.

If you can't wait that long, then February is still a good time to shop. Historically, Presidents' Day brings deep discounts on bedding: it's the best time to buy this side of Memorial Day. Now's a good time to stock up on cooling bedding out of season, so you're ready for summer.

If you're shopping on Amazon, then the best times to buy are July and October: whenever Amazon Prime Day happens to fall that year. Amazon stocks bedding from smaller specialist sleep stores as well as big-name brands, including Tempur-Pedic, Brooklinen, and Cozy Earth. Amazon is one of the best places to buy affordable bedding for buyers on a budget.
