We love coffee and we love interior design, so when the two come together, it can't get any better. Zooey Deschanel demonstrates one of the best examples we've ever seen in her kitchen in a recent Instagram post.

The actress's coffee station sits in the corner of her art-deco-style cabinets for a delicious mix of modern and retro. Diamond shapes on the doors of the cabinets have an early 20th-century glamor, while the black matte paint gives it a modern feel. The addition of Zooey's Nespresso machine and mugs peeking from behind reveals that it's just as functional as it is stylish.

With the rise of people working to create luxurious experiences at home, coffee cabinets like Zooey's have become a rising interior design trend for 2025. 'A breakfast pantry can be designed to your specific needs and routines and can be incorporated into any space,' explains Tom Howley, Creative Design Director at the eponymous kitchen company.

He continues, 'A double breakfast pantry can hold a barista-style coffee machine, storage for your tea, coffee beans, and favorite mugs, plus plenty of surface space for drink prep. It can even be designed to include a boiling water tap and a small sink for making a cup of tea in seconds. The best thing about this set-up is that when you’re hosting, you can close the doors behind you, instantly concealing any clutter until it’s time to tidy.'

Editor's Coffee Station Essentials

Plus, using a tall cabinet as a coffee station, as Deschanel has done, is a wonderful use of kitchen storage. It taps into clever hacks by mobilizing vertical space. In accordance, Luxury London interior designer Naomi Astley Clarke recommends: 'Make sure to utilise all your kitchen’s space, especially height.'

To recreate Zooey's coffee bar idea, it's essential to get the dimensions of the cabinet right. Tom Howley suggests: 'We would recommend at least a 35-inch-wide cupboard to house a freestanding coffee maker whilst providing a small preparation area adjacent to it. For built-in coffee machines, the main consideration is the depth of the unit. Coffee machines like these need a 24-inch depth, like an oven. The breakfast pantry will likely sit forward of its neighboring cupboards to accommodate the depth, which also makes a lovely feature of the furniture itself.'

When both design and caffeine are involved, you can't go wrong.
