Winnie Harlow has shared images of her sophisticated Los Angeles home, designed by esteemed celebrity designer Martyn Bullard.
The home, which was featured as part of Architectural Digest’s ‘Open Door’ series, is a five-bed property and we’ve been lucky enough to view its stunning monochrome interiors in the photos shared by the model, below.
The home is designed with a modern aesthetic, with the duo working collaboratively to ensure the end result was a practical home where Harlow could host lots of friends and family, yet maintain an element of glamour. ‘My house should have a calm energy, but I want a sense of glamour as well,’ Harlow explains to Architectural Digest.
Opting for a monochrome color scheme across all of the rooms pictured, the two-tone home is elegant and refined, showcasing how a minimal home decorated with white walls can be elevated to create the ultimate sophisticated space.
Whilst an entirely monochrome home can risk feeling flat, the introduction of plenty of interesting features, as well as using warm-toned brass fixtures as shown in Harlow’s home, elevates the space.
Melissa Read, Creative Director at Studio Burntwood explains how a monochrome home can be an interior design success: ‘A monochromatic scheme is a simple way to create contrast without the use of bold colors. The neutral and pared-back color palette creates a calmness whilst still feeling sleek and editorial.’
‘Playfulness and personality can be seen through sculptural pieces of art and lighting, and accents of gold are used on a handful of statement pieces which elevates the space and add a sense of glamor.’
Melissa Read attended the KLC School of Design in Chelsea before working at London's best-regarded interior design studios. Now Creative Director of Studio Burntwood, an interior design studio that specializes in luxury residential interior design for private clients and property developers.
If you’re considering opting for a monochrome interior style in your own home, make sure to follow Read’s advice to ensure an elevated end result: ‘Ensure to add warmth by layering various textures and fabrics through the window dressings, upholstery, and accessories which will help to soften the space.’
Another integral part of the design process of Harlow's home was personalizing the space with her achievements as a model. The world’s first-ever model with vitiligo, Bullard encouraged Harlow to capture her successes in the design of the home.
