Exclusive: Tan France's door-less closet brings a unique, personal twist to bedroom organization – it's easily replicable in every kind of space
The Queer Eye star implements a smart storage system in his sons' bedrooms – he says its functional but good-looking design makes life easier
For many of us, closet organization is an ongoing project, wherein we experiment with specialized hangers and bespoke baskets to finally achieve a space that is as stylish as it is functional. If you're still on this journey (and let's be real, most of us are), then Tan France's latest collaboration with The Container Store might just be the solution for you.
The Queer Eye star and design maven has partnered with the storage shop on their Elfa Decor+ line, which takes their beloved shelving units and includes LED lighting, extension drawers, and birch finishes. The best part? It looks great against a wall, redefining what a traditional closet looks like, and giving us some major closet storage ideas.
'What made me partner with The Container Store and use Decor+ by Elfa is the sleek design and the customization of the design,' France tells us. 'Knowing that I could create a space in my kids’ rooms that are both stylish and functional was the goal, and I believe we’ve completely achieved that. We wanted to be able to store as much clothing as possible, while also having display space for easy access to things like books, toys, etc. It has been such a wonderful experience. The team was creative and executed the vision so well.'

Shelving Unit
Industrial meets natural with this steel and wood shelving unit, ideal for neat organization and accessible thanks to LED lights and mesh drawers.
Clear Organizer
As far as in-drawer organizers go, these clear ones hit the mark with their square edges for maximum storage space and various sizes.
Cotton Bin
Keep items where you can see them with this white, cotton bin, perfect for closets, kids' rooms, and bathrooms.
Combining the benefits of an open shelving unit with professional organizer-approved structures, the Elfa Decor+ line is versatile and customizable, as seen in France's two sons' rooms.
'My favorite element of Ismail’s new space is the brass-colored hardware that elevates this kid space,' he says. 'For Isaac’s space, I love the soft close drawers that protect him from injury during his young, explorative stage.'
When it comes to home organizing ideas, France says he's picked up a crucial skill that he recommends to everyone.
'My main one is drawer organizers/boxes/trays,' he says. 'Allocating a space in each drawer, to separate out different categories of my kids' clothes and accessories has made life easier for me, and a tip that I think would be helpful to most parents.'

As far as advice for anyone who is looking to keep their children's rooms tidy, organized, and chic, France has this to offer: 'Create a space that offers all of your storage needs but don’t forget to add shelving, where possible, to display the toys and books that lean in to the play and joy of a child’s bedroom.'
