There is perhaps no better place to experiment with vintage decor than the dining room. A place primed for entertaining and gathering, the dining room is an optimal area of the home to display antiques and incorporate vintage furnishings.

Sofia Vergara proves our point with her lavish yet rustic dining space, as seen on her Instagram page. In a photo shared recently, we can see that the Modern Family and Griselda actor has created a vintage feel in her dining space thanks to a reclaimed wood sideboard, a crystal chandelier, and powder blue dining chairs. The combination instantly makes her dining room look more expensive.

The latter make a subtle statement thanks to their color and chic silhouette; and according to experts, the color is a key feature in any vintage-inspired dining room.

Reminiscent of palaces and regal dining spaces, pastels are perfect for making a space feel traditional yet chic.

'Use vintage tones to achieve an authentic aesthetic,' suggests Sam Deeble, Home Interiors Expert at Woods Furniture. 'Opt for soft pastels like mint green, dusty rose, and powder blue for charm and elegance, and deeper tones such as burgundy and olive green to add warmth. These soft and rich hues bring a vintage feel and can be introduced through soft furnishings such as rugs and curtains or on the walls for a richer design.'

Additionally, the rustic elements of Sofia's space – in particular her wood sideboard – contribute to the overall ambiance of a lavish, antique room.

'Add wooden features into your dining room for a vintage feel,' Sam recommends. 'The natural material evokes a sense of history and character and is associated with period pieces, contributing to an aesthetic that feels nostalgic. Wood was widely used as a traditional material for furniture and its design resembles styles from past eras, adding to the vintage feel. Aging wood also develops unique characteristics, elevating the period aesthetic.'

The pristine dining seats contrast the rugged wood beautifully, while the crystal chandelier ties everything together thanks to its natural beauty and a hint of glamour.

To take it to the next level, consider table dressings and accessories that will further enhance the vintage look.

'Adding textures is a great way to create a warm and inviting dining room,' Sam explains. 'Achieve a period aesthetic with distressed wood, lace tablecloth, velvet seat cushions, woven placements, and textured wallpaper. Introducing different textures enhances the vintage feel for a timeless look.'

A vintage-inspired dining room ensures that a space feels at once traditional and trendy, meaning that it has longevity.
