This 'playful' detail in Millie Bobby Brown's kitchen had the potential to go seriously wrong – but designers are obsessed
You'll never guess how Millie Bobby Brown has finished her stovetop backsplash
You most likely know her as Eleven from the science fiction series Stranger Things, but British actress Millie Bobby Brown has since moved on to become an author and a businesswoman. In a recent Instagram video, the 19-year-old star showed off her entrepreneurial spirit by teaching fans how she makes her morning coffee using materials from her brand Florence by Mills. Despite the delicious-looking coffee, we were focused on the kitchen decor.
We were especially intrigued by the innovative kitchen backsplash, which uses tiny, sparkling, almost pearlescent tiles to create a shimmering effect.

Though the phrase 'sparkly backsplash' doesn't necessarily inspire confidence, the garish images it brings to mind couldn't be further from the subtle, sophisticated look a sparkly backsplash lends to Millie Bobby Brown's kitchen.
Interior design experts agree that the Enola Holmes actress has successfully pulled off the unconventional kitchen wall decor.
First of all, designers believe that Millie Bobby Brown's backsplash is an unexpected showstopper. Melissa Read, London-based interior designer and creative director of Studio Burntwood states: 'Millie has given her kitchen a unique touch by opting for sparkly tiles as a backsplash. The tiles not only add an element of personality to the kitchen but also create a playful atmosphere.'
Melissa Read attended the KLC School of Design in Chelsea before working at London's best-regarded interior design studios. Now Creative Director of Studio Burntwood, an interior design studio that specializes in luxury residential interior design for private clients and property developers.
She continues, 'The backsplash also serves as a focal point in the kitchen, drawing attention to its unique and elegant design. These tiles create a beautiful contrast to the traditional woodwork and neutral colors of the kitchen.' Karen Loc, New York-based interior designer at Lore Design, adds that the shimmering backsplash 'captivates your attention' and accentuates the neutral beauty of Millie's white kitchen.
Karen Loc is the interior designer and founder of Lore Design Inc. where she shows nervous renovators that designing a home can be fun and painless. She brings a fresh perspective to classic design that is tailored for modern living. Karen is located in New York City and has worked for world renowned designers and brands like Adam Tihany, Rafael Vinoly, and Morgan Stanley.
Furthermore, the experts say, the shimmering backsplash makes the small kitchen look bigger. Melissa says, 'The choice of tiles allows the light to bounce off them, thereby creating an illusion of space and brightness in the kitchen.' Karen adds, 'It elegantly blends with the rest of her color scheme while giving great definition to the cooktop area and making it feel expansive which is perfect for comfortably preparing meals and spreading out when she's cooking.'
