Michael Bublé and Luisana Lopilato use this intelligent tile trick to make their white kitchen feel textured and timeless
The couple's kitchen backsplash adds subtle dimension to their monochromatic space in a statement move that designers love
White kitchens, for some, serve as blank canvases to incorporate colorful accessories and decor. Others, however, go fully monochromatic with an all-white look. However, the latter camp requires some expert styling to ensure that it doesn't look too flat.
We are taking cues from Michael Bublé and Luisana Lopilato, who shared a snap of their multi-dimensional white kitchen. While the matte cabinets and kitchen counters are sleek, the subtle pattern of the tiled backsplash adds some visual interest, giving us some white kitchen ideas that will evolve with time.
Looking to spruce up your white kitchen? Designers say that Lopilato's tile trick is the pefect starting point. Though it involves some time and effort, it's easier than a larger-scale renovation, but the effects are unmatched.

'A tiled backsplash is an ideal place to introduce texture and style in a white kitchen,' says designer Nina Lichtenstein. 'Consider a patterned tile in subtle shades, such as gray or beige, for a sophisticated look that doesn’t overpower the space. Subway kitchen tiles are a classic choice, but try opting for a beveled or hand-finished version to bring depth. For a modern touch, go for a herringbone or hexagon tile pattern that keeps the backdrop interesting without straying from a neutral palette.'
She continues, 'Natural wood tones can balance out the crispness of a white kitchen by adding warmth and character. Try floating wood shelves, a butcher block countertop for your island, wood ceiling beams, or wooden stools. Lighter woods, like maple or oak, create a calming look, while darker wood accents like walnut add a more dramatic contrast that can anchor the space visually.'
Alternatively, Lichtenstein recommends implementing metallic elements, such as handles or accents, that look chic in a kitchen.
'Hardware and fixtures in brass, matte black, or copper bring instant elegance and personality to a white kitchen,' she says. 'Whether through cabinet handles, light fixtures, or even a faucet, metallic finishes add a chic touch without overwhelming the palette. For a luxe look, try a statement pendant light over the island with a polished metal finish or matte black cabinet hardware to create depth.'

Additionally, 'Consider incorporating glass-front or open shelving for displaying beautiful dishware, ceramics, or other decor. This creates layers of texture and color, breaking up the monotony of closed cabinetry. Open shelving also lets you swap out items seasonally, keeping the space fresh and updated over time.'

Finally, if you do want to incorporate some color, think about going down a natural route with some plants.
'Nothing brings life to a white kitchen like a bit of greenery,' Lichtenstein says. 'A few potted herbs on the windowsill or a trailing plant on an open shelf can add color and energy. Choose plants that thrive indoors, such as pothos or succulents, and place them strategically to soften the lines of the space.'

Coaster
Keep drinks secure on surfaces with these marbled white coasters. They stand as a reminder of why white remains chic and timeless, especially in the kitchen.
Toaster
Retro yet contemporary, this Smeg toaster fits four slices of toast and is compact enough to fit on a small counter. It's the same one we've spotted in Bublé's kitchen, in case we need anymore convincing to invest.
Bowl
We love this small marble bowl as a vessel for salt, pepper, or spices. Like the coasters, its understated design and quietly luxurious finish make white accessible in any hued kitchen.
Monochromatic kitchens can have some flexibility with a color palette, too; add in taupe, cream, or gray for a subtle switch-up of shades.
