'One of the easiest ways to update a farmhouse kitchen is by integrating a variety of metals,' designer Nina Lichtenstein explains. 'Start with your hardware, such as cabinet handles, drawer pulls, and faucets. Brass and copper can add warmth that complements the rustic elements of a farmhouse design, while blackened steel or matte black finishes can introduce an industrial contrast, giving the space a contemporary twist. Don’t shy away from mixing these metals; the juxtaposition of different finishes creates visual interest and adds depth to the kitchen.'

She continues, 'For instance, pair brass faucets with matte black drawer pulls, or opt for stainless steel appliances contrasted against a copper range hood. The key is balance—choose one or two primary metals and introduce a third as an accent to avoid overwhelming the space.'

The coolness of the steel is grounded by the natural warmth of wood, creating a balanced and harmonious space that feels both contemporary and classic.'
