Martha Stewart's 'innovative' kitchen storage is over a decade old, but it's still as smart today – she uses spaces that 'would otherwise be lost'
The best storage solutions are discreet, smart, and, above all, timeless – Stewart's kitchen encompasses all three qualities (11 years later)
Anyone who knows Martha Stewart may already be familiar with her iconic Turkey Hill kitchen in Westport, Connecticut – but did you know that she also uses a remake?
Stewart worked with Home Depot to design the aptly named 'Turkey Hill kitchen,' inspired by the space in her home. 'This is a phenomenal kitchen,' Stewart says in the footage below. In the clip, she shares clever kitchen storage ideas, starting with a discreet sliding cupboard that fits perfectly in the compact space beside her fridge and cabinets.
'I love this feature; it’s called the rolling pantry. This uses up six inches of space that otherwise would be lost – a space in between a refrigerator and these big, deep pot and pan drawers (I call them). On these shelves, I can keep nuts, sugar cubes, teas, and extra coffee that can all fit right into this particular space, and it looks nice.'
Stewart's footage dates back over 11 years, but the Home Depot still sells something that's almost identical. This Pull-Out Kitchen Cabinet Organizer is narrow enough to fit in small spaces and features racks that are perfect for storing nuts, coffees, and teas, just as she does.
With this organizer, storage has never felt so discreet. The units glide on Home Depot's patented tri-slides, which minimize any side-to-side motion and provide complete stability when the cabinet is pulled out. Meanwhile, the attractive wood construction is versatile enough to work in every kind of kitchen, whether it's vanilla-toned like Stewart's or you play with bolder hues.
Later in the clip, Stewart addresses organizing spices intelligently. Like many, she keeps her spice cabinet above her countertops (for easy reach when cooking). However, unlike everyone, she uses a shelf that makes each jar easy to see.
'This is our spice cabinet, and this wonderful shelf holds many, many spices. I can never find spices in an ordinary kitchen; they’re all jumbled into a cupboard, but this allows you to read the names of every single spice and keep them in alphabetical order if you wish,' she says.
While it appears as though Stewart's exact spice organizer is no longer available, this alternative is just as useful (and just as discreet).

When The Home Depot shared Stewart's clip 11 years ago, they labeled these solutions as 'innovative,' and over a decade later, we can confirm they're just as smart. Whether you have a small kitchen or you're trying to start in a spacious room (just as Stewart is in Turkey Hill), maximizing 'dead' space is always a good idea – and, as this clip suggests, being organized will never go out of style.
