Martha Stewart's exceptional and unusual Christmas living room is the perfect use of my favorite color – it's one of the prettiest festive schemes I've seen
We feel immediately closer to nature in this green environment...

Green's soothing quality is hard to beat as a backdrop. But color-drenching with a festive green, especially at Christmas, can look remarkable and unique.
‘Color drenching acts as a beautiful canvas for drawing the eye to specific objects in the foreground – like the texture in a rug or sofa, or a pattern on an ornament or decoration,' explains Maryana Grinshpun, principal at New York-based design-build company Mammoth.
American icon Martha Stewart is never one to do anything by half measures. She took a risk when color-drenching her 'Green Room' – and the risk certainly paid off.
Stewart takes great care decorating the Christmas trees in her magnificent Bedford home. 'My Green Room is just off the foyer. The sunken parlor is decorated in a gorgeous gold and green color scheme,' says Stewart on her blog. 'I love these two trees filled with ornaments – they just light up the room. I love how everything shimmers on the branches.' It is all very biophilic – an interior design trend that I predict will continue to take shape in 2025.

Shop the 'Green Room' look
If you want to replicate Martha Stewart's green Christmas tree in one fell swoop, this assortment of 46 ornaments should be on your shopping list. Pair with twinkling LED lights and you're done.
Dress up your tree in the luxury of green velvet – the on-trend materials for 2024/25. Deep pine-green flocking coats the eight glass ornaments, unifying the many shapes and textures for a warm, cohesive and cozy look.
Your Christmas tree is never complete without a pretty tree collar. My favorite designs are hand-woven wicker, such as the one. They go with both modern and traditional schemes, and you can reuse them year after year.
These pretty festive tabletop trees will make a wonderful addition to a coffee table, sideboard or even to decorate a dull desktop. I'm sold.
If you are only going to decorate with one color this Christmas, make it forest green. This decadent, rich hue is warm and cozy, and in my opinion, will endure beyond any trends or color fads.
Invite plenty of character and texture into your home come Christmas with an Antique Brass Taper Candle Holder. Its brass finish and slender form highlights the forged nature of this piece.
Decorating with green will work wonderfully throughout the year, but it is a no-brainer at Christmas. Green room ideas are entwined with the permanence and beauty of nature and are a timeless choice for interior decorating at Christmas that shows no signs of abating.
The majesty of ancient forests has long inspired interior design. Whether the grandeur of an oak tree or the enchanting shape of an acanthus leaf, rich, velvety greens offer homes a nurturing connection to nature – a feeling we often lack in the winter months when greenery is sparse.
‘Green reassures us on a very primitive level. We know we can find food and water, which means green equals life, abundance, and vitality. Using different shades of mid and dark greens as part of our Christmas decor ideas, brings in these feelings of reassurance and rest,’ says Karen Haller, color and design psychology specialist and author of The Little Book of Color, available at Amazon.

For the ultimate nurturing space, layer greens with browns, taupes, and glistening gold to evoke calming country vistas. ‘Working with a green-brown palette will ensure a feeling of peace and tranquillity as both colors appear strongly in nature.
Green is a wonderful Christmas color scheme – one you will never tire of, and when Christmas is over, you can enjoy your everlasting green room all year round.
