Lainey Wilson's classic cabinet hue comes with expert approval – but we need to use it intelligently
The most timeless of all colors is versatile enough to transcend design trends, but we need to use it in a particular way
Designers and color experts alike often agree that white is one of the few hues with the ability to impress in every style of kitchen, and this hasn't gone unnoticed by Lainey Wilson.
The country music singer opted for a crisp white kitchen cabinet color in her Nashville abode, and it's hard to disagree that her choice is both versatile and timeless. With such an eternal appeal, the desire to follow Lainey's white kitchen lead is inevitable; however, in all its glory, experts urge us to paint with caution.
'White is fine to use, but in large areas, it can become very cold,' comments Valspar's color expert Sarah Lloyd. So, how can we ensure our space falls on the right side of cool? 'If you're choosing white, pair it with a warm tone color, even if it's just for the accent around the room, such as handles and door knobs, or contrast this with a warm wood floor,' Sarah suggests.

Though it's harder to see in the footage above, Lainey has interrupted the white color palette with a dark red kitchen island, mahogany flooring, and tan-hued soft furnishings (as seen in this footage via her Instagram).
Decorating with red, even in small pockets, is, however, not for everyone, so which other hues pair well with white? 'A color that is very on trend for 2024 is blue. Blue and white is a timeless kitchen color combo that creates a crisp and refreshing look in your space,' Sarah says. She adds that the white and blue color combination keeps our kitchens' grounded,' 'well balanced,' and always bright and airy.
Alternatively, if we want a darker kitchen design, gray and white works particularly well, especially in contemporary spaces.
'Darker gray shades often work best in larger kitchens; however, if your kitchen is smaller, try a 50/50 wall paint technique, keeping the top half of your walls in a light shade, ideally white or tonal cream,' Sarah explains.

This way, you won't overwhelm the space or make it feel smaller than it is. Keeping the cabinetry, ceilings, and skirtings bright white will also help to frame the color, as well as ensure there is enough light in the room.
