Kris Jenner's 'cozy' movie room uses this clever paint trend – experts explain how to recreate the look
You may think of this paint trend as bold, but experts say it creates the ultimate cozy space
It's that time of year when we're looking to amp up the cozy factor in our homes, in anticipation of the colder months to come. There are of course many ways to bring warmth into your home this fall, from soft textiles to snug seating, however, Kris Jenner demonstrates how paint trends can also help make the home feel more cozy.
'Home movie theaters aren’t exactly in every home you come across, so there really isn’t a blueprint for how to do it right, but if there were, this would be it,' says interior design expert Kathy Kuo.
Pictured below, Kris's home movie room is a dark and sumptuous space that looks like the ideal place to relax, and experts note that the use of color-drenched paint aids the room in feeling this way.

Color drenching is a paint trend that takes one color in a room and uses this across all elements in addition to all four walls: including skirtings, the ceiling, and accent trims. When opting for this look, experts note that it works best with dark colors to help create that cocooned feel.
Interior designer and owner of Swann Street Interiors Halie Porter says: 'The key to utilizing dark colors to create an illusion that you're being cocooned – without being cramped – is to utilize paint that leaves you wondering where on the color spectrum it really falls and use it everywhere. Kris's theater room makes you question: are the walls navy or black? Because we experience this room as both navy and black, we can also experience it as both grand and cozy.'
Halie has been the owner and operator of Washington, D.C.-based Swann Street Interiors for the past three years. She specializes in traditional and virtual design services, and is adept in recommending the best paint colors for homes.
'Kris has really found the perfect balance between comfy and chic here. The dark blue tones feel soothing and sophisticated and wouldn’t be distracting to the eye while watching a movie in this space,' adds Kuo.
Kathy Kuo is a celebrated interior designer and international guru within the home and lifestyle space. She has 20+ years of experience in the design industry.
'While it may seem scary to paint a ceiling anything but white, deeper colors really only work when you eliminate any areas of high contrast. Kris's room feels endless because the paint envelops the room. If there was a stark line between the walls and ceiling it would actually cut off the ceiling height,' continues Porter.

Color drench your home to channel this cozy look
If color drenching is a style you're feeling inspired to opt for in your own home, it's the perfect time of year to do so. Porter makes her suggestions for the best paint color trends to channel this look, starting off with Benjamin Moore's Mysterious and Midnight Blue which fall somewher between a rich navy and dark gray.
Porter also suggests Farrow and Ball's Railings, a soft alternative to black, and Sherwin-Williams' Iron Ore, which she explains 'reads a bronzy black in a dimly lit space.'
