Kris Jenner's textured planter is one of the most interesting I've seen – its natural materials embrace biophilic design

As a celebrity style editor, I am highly interested in the ways that our favorite celebs utilize space and storage. Many of them have expansive homes, and as such, the scale that they can play with allows for some experimentation.

One such example, which I haven't been able to stop thinking about since I saw it, is Kris Jenner's giant wicker basket planter. In a post shared to Instagram, we can see the momager and business mogul standing in front of gorgeous green tree in her living room; and while wicker baskets are commonly used for storing blankets or books in this space, Jenner's choice to use it as a planter is a unique twist.

The design choice not only evokes the natural world (the Japandi trend comes to mind), but has me reconsidering the ways we can decorate with storage baskets.

Wicker and rattan baskets are beloved, and for good reason. Comprised of natural materials, wicker baskets add a touch of nature to any space, making them solid storage picks for both urban and nature-inspired homes.

They work especially well as planters, with wicker's woven texture complementing a plant's unique patterns and lines. I love how Jenner's tall, lush plant adds life to the neutral living space, with a gray stone fireplace and white-painted walls behind it. The woven basket takes it up a notch, adding some texture to the relatively smooth space.

There are endless possibilities when it comes to uniquely displaying wicker baskets. In addition to its function as a planter, large varieties of this basket can be used as an ottoman or side table with their lids on (depending on width and height), while smaller baskets can go on the wall.

I am partial to the planter technique, however, as it makes a functional object (a regular planter) more visually appealing.

As with plant care itself, wicker basket planters require some TLC. If using a wicker basket as a planter, I recommend placing a waterproof liner inside as to avoid any leaks from waterings.

Additionally, wicker's organic materials are sensitive to sunlight and humidity, so ensure that these planters get some shade to prevent any drying out or heat damage. All in all, wicker basket planters fit into a variety of design trends, from biophilic to Scandi style, making them great choices for your plant's next home.
