Beauty is pain, they say. But what if beauty could be restful, relaxing, and improve the design of your home? Kourtney Kardashian uses a silk pillowcase to make this dream a reality.

The TV personality shared that one of the best silk pillowcases is something she can't live without in an interview with The Strategist. She stated: 'I always have to sleep on a silk pillowcase. I remember when I was maybe 15, and one of my mom’s best friends, who was an actress, told us the No. 1 beauty tip is to sleep on a silk pillowcase. I’ve done it since I was in high school. And now I travel with mine. If I’m going anywhere for more than two nights, then I definitely bring my silk pillowcase. I have to have my pillow and silk pillowcase on the plane to sleep on, so I usually bring it. I love it — I think it’s great for skin and hair, and they say it helps with wrinkles. I just think it’s amazing.'

Kardashian isn't the only one who thinks you should switch to a silk pillowcase. The sleep aid has been touted by celebrities from Oprah to Kristen Bell. Even Jamie Lee Curtis sleeps on silk sheets. And for good reason. The beauty benefits of this kind of bedding have been well established. Essentially, the smooth surface of the silk allows skin and hair to glide over it, preventing wrinkles and creasing.

However, as design people, we have another reason that silk pillowcases are worth it: how beautiful they look on the bed. A silk pillowcase is an excellent choice to have peeking out from behind your decorative shams because of it's shimmering texture. When paired with percale cotton, the look creates a delicious contrast. I also love how Kourtney has chosen a silk pillowcase in a darker shade, that would be a stylish contrast with a lighter bed. To style your own silk pillowcase, consider how you can integrate as much visual interest as possible into your pillow styling. For example, layer your silk pillows with a cotton pillow in front and a woven lumbar pillow in front. These layers will create a cozy and sumptuous vibe.

With the endorsement of Kourtney Kardashian and the experts in design, it almost feels like there's no reason not to buy a silk pillowcase. Just make sure you know how to wash silk sheets.
