Jennifer Lopez uses this color to bring 'laidback luxury' to her compact living room nook – experts say it's the perfect accent shade
J.Lo. uses a unique, 70s-inspired shade to bring fun and whimsy to her living room corner, it is a bold complement to the neutral space
Jennifer Lopez's home has long been a source of interior design inspiration because she creates beauty in even the most seemingly trivial of spaces. She's done it again with gold paint in her living room nook.
The actress debuted her living room idea in a recent Instagram post, showing off her white walls, brown and cream carpets, and white and green furniture. In the background, a small nook off the space is swathed in gold. Warm golden walls complement the cream-colored sofa and vintage mirror. Metallic accents from a gold cigar table and gold and pink chandelier bring out the brightness of the paint.
Experts love J.Lo.'s accent color choice. 'Decorating with gold is always going to be a popular accent color for a variety of interior design styles, and the recent trend of 70s style gold decor proves how versatile this metallic is,' says Kathy Kuo, acclaimed NYC-based interior designer. She continues: 'When I think of 70s gold, I think of really laidback luxury—it's mellow and whimsical but also very chic and upscale.'

Choosing an accent color, like gold, for your home is a wonderful way to highlight a specific part of your space and bring in a touch of contrast. Jennifer Ebert, color expert and digital editor at Homes & Gardens states: 'An accent color in a small space like a living room nook brings fun and whimsy into your home without a huge commitment. It draws the eye back, instantly making the room feel more expansive.
Though decorating with gold is beautiful in small doses, it's not recommended as the entire living room color. Kuo tells H&G: 'My advice for bringing this trend into your home would be to embrace 70s gold as a winking contrast or accent, rather than the dominant decor element. Too much can make your home look like a set piece, but the right amount is fun and flashy.'

Plush
It doesn't get much more luxurious than a gold pillow, and we love this soft and well-sized throw from Macy's.
Decadent

Though J.Lo.'s home shows gold integrated as a paint color, it's much easier to incorporate the shade with small metallic accents. Pieces like a gold table lamp, throw cushion, or light fixture help bring the bold shade into your space with low commitment. The color looks especially modern when paired with cream, brown, and other warm, neutral room ideas.
This space is a masterclass in using gold as an accent color. It's bold, exciting, and makes J.Lo.'s living room so much more interesting.
