Jennifer Aniston's bathroom showcases the trend designers are saying is the 'most innovative countertop' feature they've seen so far in 2024

Jennifer Aniston's Beverly Hills home is a 20th-century masterpiece. Set on a hillside, the space radiates with the kind of mid-century modern charm and craftsmanship you expect from Harold W. Levitt; the renowned architect behind the mid-century property. But inside, the home is equally special.

Interior designer Stephen Shadley worked with her on the project for nearly two and a half years and poured his heart and soul into it. 'I am so proud of this house,' says Aniston in a conversation with Architectural Digest. 'It was a project without a problem.'

Naturally, I've spent hours devouring the details of this space. The bathroom is a particular favorite of mine. Not least for the hotel-style aura, but another detail has stolen my heart; the illuminated stone bathroom countertop.

Now marble counters have been popular for a while, says Alice Hood, senior design consultant at Roundhouse. 'But the ability to set yours aglow is an unexpected wow factor that would rival even the chicest hotel or Michellin-star restaurant.'

I expect we'll be seeing more illuminated countertops and surfaces in 2025. This bathroom lighting trend is a statement way to create a new dimension to the central showpiece and make it dazzle.

Bathroom lighting ideas are so important, but where we once might have thought only to install a single bright, general light to help with tasks such as shaving, washing our face, and brushing our teeth, we are now starting to see illuminated surfaces enter luxury residential properties. It is a perfect source of ambient light that goes beyond the simple wall light fixture.

In Aniston's bathroom, crystalline textures with golden tones give a lava-like appearance which is really stunning when styled with warm neutrals, glass, and metallic.

Maximizing the natural textural detail on – and within – the stone surface with a backlight and creating a beautiful feature will not only show off the one-of-a-kind internal structure but can also introduce a holistic warmth across the scheme, linking with nature and inner calm.

While trends come and go, I predict this luxury bathroom idea to stick around for the long haul. Installing illuminated surfaces in your home will help your space look and feel expensive and opulent; beautifully decorated but never at the expense of the room's functionality.

Shop the look

Setting your surface aglow isn't just something you can buy in a store, however, there are plenty of light fixtures that will replicate the rich, sophisticated look seen in Jennifer Aniston's space.
