The open vs. closed storage debate is longstanding, and both have their pros and cons. When it comes to wardrobes, however, Gwyneth Paltrow is making the case for closed storage thanks to some expert-approved organizing hacks.

The actor and lifestyle mogul recently shared a clip of herself in her closet, and we were immediately drawn to the neat rows of hanging clothes, along with a separate area for bags.

With spring cleaning in full swing, we are all ears for closet organization ideas, and Gwyneth's use of vertical and closed storage is both expert-approved and stylish.

According to experts, dividing a wardrobe into distinct sections with different storage containers and racks is crucial to creating an organized space.

'Incorporate shoe storage racks within your wardrobes to make footwear easily accessible, and organized and to free up space in your small bedroom or hallway,' suggests Joanne Dodsworth, head of bedrooms at Wren.'A pull-out trouser rack is also a clever storage hack for small spaces, maximizing the vertical space within your wardrobe. This also allows you to neatly store clothes on top of each other, rather than cramming all clothes on one horizontal rail.'

While Gwyneth has hung some delicates on her wardrobe rail, pull-out racks are great options for larger, walk-in closet units. Additionally, shelving is a great option for creating boundaries and sections within a wardrobe.

'Vertical storage can also be utilized within wardrobes, using tiered racks and shelving for clothing and footwear,' Joanne says. 'This is a perfect storage solution for busy people who require their clothes to be organized and easily accessible.'

Above all, keep wardrobes intentionally stocked. We can see that Gwyneth's wardrobe is not overflowing, and there is space between items, tapping into a broader minimalist trend.

'We believe the current wardrobe overhaul trend is about embracing simplicity,' says Caroline Caron Dhaouadi, founder and director of Homefulness. 'With everything happening in the world, people find comfort in having less clutter and keeping only what they love and need.'

She continues, 'This time of year is perfect for refreshing your home and mindset. Start small – maybe with shoes or scarves – and you’ll be surprised at how much lighter you feel.'

Consider investing in quality hangers, shoe racks, and bins for your closet so that your clothing and accessories remain organized as well as preserved.
