The office space in Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi's home is a masterful take on mid-century modern
While every element of this home office is sleek, experts admire the statement desk

There's arguably no design style that's as timeless as mid-century modern. Comprising sleek silhouettes, pared-back colors, and natural materials – most notably wood – mid-century modern is all about creating a considered space with simplistic yet elevated pieces.
We're leaning into the mid-century modern interior of the home office space belonging to Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, which was designed by interior design studio Clement Design. The room is an elegant and understated space that is elevated with quality crafted furniture items, most notably the curved wooden desk that design experts admire.

'My favorite design element in this mid-century modern home office is the size and scale of the desk,' says interior designer Kathy Kuo. 'The silhouette of the piece is relatively simple but it immediately draws the eye and anchors the room.'

Kathy Kuo is a celebrated interior designer and international guru within the home and lifestyle space. She has 20+ years of experience in the design industry.
Joanna Frank, interior designer and founder of NYC-based design store Joanna Frank Design Shop also admires the standout desk, explaining: 'A Forme Libre table by Charlotte Perriand really holds its own against the Mark Rothko painting in this home office. Made of solid wood, these tables are works of master craftsmanship and Perriand employed only the best carpenters to select the wood and work its edges.'
'The simplicity is exquisite – perfect for a casual look, yet beautiful beyond expectation. This table can take a beating, and in my opinion, looks better with each hit,' Frank concludes.
To ensure a mid-century-inspired room doesn't feel stark due to the solid furniture, it's key to incorporate soft textiles into the space to add balance and create a more homely feeling. Kuo notes that this has been considered in this home office, explaining:
'The super-plush area rug adds texture and warmth to the clean lines of the space and the accent chairs bring in just a touch of rustic contrast. The classic use of mid-century design features, paired with some unexpected touches really gives this office soul and depth.'
