HGTV's Egypt Sherrod has the formula for a beautiful but restful bedroom palette: 'I pay attention to the things that might seem strange to others'
The Married To Real Estate star brings her broker eye to every space, including the one where color choices matter the most: The bedroom
You can't be 'Married To Real Estate' without learning the small quirks that are the most impactful when selling a home. Often, curb appeal and entryways get the most air time (considering the impact of the all-important first impression), but Egypt Sherrod shines a light on the bedroom.
The HGTV broker and interior designer has an eye for both aesthetics and the features that sell a home – starting with the right bedroom color ideas. In this space, your chosen hues influence your sleep quality and, consequently, your overall well-being, so why take risks? Sherrod encourages us to look to tried-and-tested blues and neutrals because, as she says, they're popular for a reason.
'Bedrooms are very personal spaces. Everybody has their favorite tones or color combinations that make them feel at home and comfortable. There is no right and wrong to me as far as the color combinations that you choose. However, I will say that some of the most popular, and I'll explain for a reason,' she says in an exclusive interview with H&G.
'The most popular are often blues, grays, and beiges – and if you think about all those colors and lay them out, what does it remind you of? It reminds you of the beach, it reminds you of the ocean, it reminds you of serenity.'
'I'm a real estate broker, so I pay attention to the things that might seem strange to others. We pay attention to colors in rooms because even when I'm photographing them and putting them up online, my client tells me: “Hey, this is how I want to feel.” When I'm in the space, then I know what color palettes to pick from. Even if they say, they want it to be moodier. I might go for a darker shade of blue, darker green, or gray,' Sherrod says.
'We don’t usually put bright colors like reds or oranges in the bedroom because it's the antithesis of how you want to feel when you wanna fall asleep. However, I would say again there's no right and wrong. I don’t want to tell anybody how to decorate their room if they know how they want to feel. But to me, if you want calm, serene, and restful, you want to create an environment that reflects that aesthetically.'
Grays, neutrals, and blue are the perfect starting point, but if these colors don't appeal to you, Sherrod encourages you to draw from memories of the places you love the most. This will bring a hotel-inspired ambiance to your bedroom, prompting relaxation in the most personal way possible.
