Kitchen countertops are coveted spaces. While some of us have the luxury of expansive counter real estate, those of us with smaller spaces have to be economical about what we place on surfaces (and how we style these objects).

Drew Barrymore has come through with some essential tips for creating a functional kitchen that is as harmonious as it is beautiful to look at, and we are taking notes on these small kitchen ideas.

In a clip posted to the Beautiful by Drew page, four suggestions have been outlined, featuring some crowd-pleasing products (we are talking about the compact Beautiful coffee maker, of course) as well as some managable styling tricks.

First, the video instructs us to pair colors for harmony. The pastel pink coffee machine [available at Walmart] is a welcome burst of color against the porcini taupe cooker; the coffee machine adds personality to the counter, while the cooker is grounding and neutral.

Next, incorporating textures, which 'make the space feel lived-in,' is a great way to create visual interest in a kitchen. The Beautiful team has introduced a wood tray and cutting board, contrasting the matte finishes of the appliances.

They also suggest incorporating nature for warmth – introducing a few house plants is the perfect way to make a kitchen feel more lively and calming, and all the better if they are potted in decorative planters that suit your kitchen's aesthetic.

Finally, add natural elements for balance – a bouquet of fresh-cut flowers in a gorgeous vase [also available at Walmart] is simply timeless and transformative. These tips translate to every-sized kitchen, and her products are oh-so affordable – it's (almost) too good to be true.
