When it comes to timeless color combinations, black and white reigns supreme. High contrast and elevated, this mix of dark and light is a timeless choice in bathrooms, dining rooms, and kitchens regardless of a home's style.

Don Johnson is on board with the eternal combo, having shared a photo to his Instagram page of his space (all the while giving us a wonderful black and white kitchen idea). The Miami Vice star's kitchen features white appliances and tiles, black countertops, and metallic accents on handles to top it all off.

Black and white kitchens can go retro or modern depending on how you style them, but we are partial to Don's contemporary, minimalistic approach to this beloved color scheme. Experts agree that it's worth implementing into the kitchen and beyond.

Within the black and white scheme exists a range of shades and hues to choose from, meaning you can go high-contrast like Don, or slightly more subtle with muted blacks and whites.

'A monochromatic palette is incredibly captivating, offering a sophisticated and elevated look to the space,' says Dre Shapiro of Dre Design. 'Using variations of a single color creates a cohesive, elevated feel, while the mood can shift dramatically depending on the tone. Darker shades can be rich, dramatic and sexy, while lighter hues like whites or creams bring a tranquil, spa-like vibe.' Adding a contrasting shade takes this look to the next level.

In order to maintain visual interest, Dre explains that experimenting with a variety of textures is essential.

'The key to mastering this look lies in layering textures and finishes,' she states. 'By combining various textures and materials, you can add depth and warmth to the design while keeping the color consistent. This approach ensures the space remains visually engaging without feeling busy, allowing for a clean, polished aesthetic that is undeniably modern.'

Don has opted for glossy tiles as his backsplash, while the matte black countertops are sleek and refined. The aforementioned metallic fixtures provide additional visual interest via the tap and cabinet handles.

Styling a black and white kitchen requires balancing the opposing shades; however, flipping it on its head by incorporating more of one color than another is an interesting twist and can determine the ambiance of a kitchen. Whichever way you go, you can be assured that this style will remain on-trend for years to come.
