Demi Moore's wood cabinets have a 'distinctive aesthetic' that makes them feel eternally on-trend – designers say they're both cozy and sophisticated
The Oscar nominee opted for an 'unadulterated finish' in her kitchen – it offers a 'personal touch' that some painted cabinets 'cannot replicate'

Kitchen cabinets are prime targets for painting, but leaving them bare can actually be a statement in its own right. We've seen wood cabinets shine time and time again in rustic modern homes, and now, Demi Moore has joined the ranks of those opting for natural cabinetry.
The Oscar-nominated actor and star of The Substance shared a photo of her kitchen to her Instagram page, and we couldn't help but notice the wall-to-wall wooden cabinets in her space, in turn giving us some unpainted kitchen cabinet ideas.
The natural material adds textural interest and a rustic element to the space, contrasting the metallic finish of her modern appliances. According to experts, the benefits of introducing wood cabinets are plenty.

First off, wood contributes to an ambiance that is both warm and welcoming and chic.
'Unpainted cabinets have a unique charm that speaks to natural beauty and timeless design,' says designer Nina Lichtenstein. 'Highlighting the raw elegance of wood, these cabinets offer a distinctive aesthetic that makes any kitchen a warm and inviting space. Their unadulterated finish allows the natural grain and texture of the wood to shine, creating an atmosphere that feels both cozy and sophisticated.'
Apart from their elegance, wood is a robust and practical material to incorporate into the kitchen.
'Unpainted cabinets, often finished with a protective sealant, are exceptionally durable,' Nina explains. 'Unlike painted cabinets, they are less susceptible to chipping and wear over time. The natural finish can easily be refreshed with oil or wax, maintaining its beauty for years.'

Additionally, regardless of wood selection, you are guaranteed a unique appearance.
'No two pieces of wood are exactly alike,' Nina says. 'The distinct patterns and grains in unpainted cabinets add uniqueness to your kitchen, making it truly one-of-a-kind. This individuality brings a personal touch that mass-produced, painted cabinets cannot replicate.'
We can see that Demi has opted for a medium shade of wood, but light washes are great for bright kitchens, while darker oaks provide a rich and almost moody atmosphere.
When styling around unpainted cabinets, think about introducing other natural materials to tie everything together (a la wood drenching). Alternatively, accessories can provide another layer of natural texture.
'Consider natural stone or butcher block countertops to enhance the organic feel, Nina suggests. 'A subway tile backsplash in a complementary tone can add a touch of modernity while keeping the focus on the cabinets.'
She continues, 'Incorporate natural elements like potted herbs, wooden cutting boards, and woven baskets to reinforce the earthy vibe. Open shelving with unpainted wood can display your favorite ceramics and glassware, adding both functionality and charm.'

Try experimenting with bold colors alongside wood cabinets for a bright look, or neutrals for a pared-back, relaxing ambiance.
