I always turn to this tried-and-true neutral for an effortlessly chic living space – and Coco Gauff does the same
The tennis star's living room features a set of cream sofas, which designers say are one of the most versatile pieces you can pick for your space

When it comes to neutrals, whites and creams are, for many of us, go-to color choices within the home. From eggshell paint to cream-colored sofas, light colors work wonders everywhere, from the kitchen to the living room.
When it comes to the latter, we are taking cues from renowned athlete Coco Gauff. Her living space features white-painted walls and cream couches, lending to a clean, minimalistic aesthetic (and it's giving us some white living room ideas).
Committing to an all-white space is certainly an option, but the power of a cream or white sofa cannot be underestimated. It's a look I have always loved in my own living space, and experts agree that these furniture pieces are both trendy and timeless.

A minimalist's essential element is a white paint like this one.
Designers say that cream couches are excellent in transitional spaces due to their serene shade.
'For those who love a blend of traditional and contemporary elements, a cream sofa is the perfect bridge,' says Westchester-based designer Nina Lichtenstein. 'It brings a sense of calm and balance, allowing bolder accents, such as statement lighting or rich wood finishes, to take center stage without feeling too stark.'
One aspect to be mindful of when working with an all-white space is keeping it visually appealing. The solution? Textural additions.
'One of the easiest ways to add visual interest to a cream couch is by layering different textures,' Nina explains.

'Pair it with throw blankets made of chunky knits, faux fur, or linen for a rich, tactile experience. Adding velvet or leather cushions can further elevate the look, providing a luxurious feel while breaking up the simplicity of the cream fabric.'
With the ability to fit into design styles such as Scandinavian or modern minimalist, investing in a white sofa is a very safe yet trend-forward way to furnish a neutral living space.
'The enduring appeal of the cream couch lies in its versatility and timeless elegance,' Nina continues.
'Whether you’re designing a modern minimalist living room or a cozy farmhouse retreat, a cream sofa offers a refined, neutral base that can adapt to any style or color palette. By thoughtfully layering textures, choosing complementary colors, and incorporating natural materials, a cream couch becomes more than just a seating choice—it becomes the heart of your living space.'
