There's nothing more we love than a simple yet refined living room. While experimenting with trends is an exciting way to infuse a space with personality, there is something to be said about investing in elevated basics.

Take Claudia Schiffer's living room: the model and actor recently shared a photo of her Scandi-style space on Instagram, and we are obsessed.

The Argylle star has paired a shearling, cream accent chair with a tufted, Moroccan-style rug, which are both rounded out by natural wood thanks to her sleek media console and a stool-style side table. The blend of textures and materials keeps visual interest in the space, while the classic pairing of white and wood ensures longevity.

According to experts, decorating with neutrals and pairing white with wood accents is a safe yet stylish design scheme to play with in part due to the combination's versatility.

'The combination of white and wood accents is one of the most enduring design choices, effortlessly blending sophistication with natural warmth,' says designer Nina Lichtenstein. 'This versatile pairing transcends trends, adapting to a range of styles, from minimalist to rustic, modern to traditional, and consistently creating a harmonious and inviting space.'

She continues, 'Wood accents bring nature indoors, adding texture and depth to white-painted walls or furniture. This connection to the natural world promotes a sense of tranquility and well-being in the home. White paint, on the other hand, emphasizes simplicity and purity, allowing the beauty of the wood to take center stage.'

Using textured pieces, like Claudia has done, is a great way to style a white and wood space according to Nina.

'Enhance the white and wood palette by introducing textures such as woven baskets, linen textiles, or sheepskin throws,' she says. 'These elements add interest and warmth, making the space feel more dynamic and lived-in. Textured wood elements like reclaimed beams, reclaimed wood accent walls, or rustic shelving can also add character to a white-painted room.'
