Natural materials in the home are eternally popular for good reason – they are highly durable, calming, and aesthetically pleasing, not to mention a timeless style choice.

Using natural materials in unexpected ways is a great entryway idea, as evidenced by Claudia Schiffer's home. The model and actor recently shared a snap of her entryway to her Instagram page, and we couldn't help but admire the leather handrails on her stairs, which complement the warm wood steps and contrast the metal stands. Claudia's colorful hanging art adds a pop to the white painted walls.

Introducing natural materials into the home is by no means a groundbreaking concept, but using them as accents is a great way to naturalize a more contemporary space – and it has me rethinking ways to decorate an entryway.

Stairs are all too often neglected, used as a purely functional part of the home that takes you from one floor to another. However, Claudia's stairs show us that these can be a major design feature and focal point. As the first thing guests see when they enter the home, it is crucial to use them as a vehicle to set the tone. When considering staircase trends, if you are trying to curate a modern, contemporary feel in your home, opt for chrome or dark painted wood finishes, while natural, wood staircases would suit a rustic or farmhouse-inspired home.

Leather specifically gives a handrail a luxe and modern appeal, while also staying true to an organic spirit, making it a fantastic choice for a modern rustic entryway.

Natural materials can also be incorporated into other elements of an entryway beyond the staircase. Opt for a rattan rug, a leather accent chair, or a wood console table to create a warm and welcoming, yet chic entrance. Additionally, plants make great natural accessories in an entryway, adding greenery and textural interest to any space, big or small. It's a bonus if you house them in a woven or stone pot, which just further enhances the organic feel of the area.

Incorporating natural materials in an entryway is a sure-fire way to elevate the space, whether it is through staircase handrails or small-scale accessories.
