Goodbye cabinets, hello, open shelves. The airy storage method has been trending for some time now, but Chrissy Teigen's marble and wood take on the look is one of the best we've ever seen.

We spotted the kitchen storage idea in the background of an Instagram post about her latest innovation for Cravings. Though her wooden cabinets and marble backsplash are striking, the most impressive aspect of Chrissy's kitchen is the two layered shalves above her countertop. They are made out of the same marble slab seen on her countertops, and feature low lighting to cast a warm glow across the design. She has layered cream browls and a vase of flowers on the lower shelf. On the upper shelf, Chrissy has positioned her cookbooks in an alternating horizontal and vertical layout.

What makes Chrissy's kitchen shelving work? First, she has chosen to use the same marble for her backsplash and shelves. This creates an ultra-interesting and cohesive look. The connection between the backsplash, countertops, and the built-ins make the items that she has chosen to feature on her shelving stand out all the more. This contributes to enhancing the quiet luxury feel of the kitchen while adding something more interesting to the design.

To recreate her look, we recommend combining a collection of books with some muted color dishes. Megan Slack, Head of Celebrity Style at Homes & Gardens recommends: 'Part of what makes Chrissy's shelves so attractive is the contrast between color on the stop shelf, and neutrals on the second shelf. Prioritize cookbooks with a colorful spine to create a similar contrast in your own kitchen. Choosing dishes for their stylish curved shape will also help to create a similarly stunning balance between open and closed space on your vertifcal shelving.'

Open shelving can transform your kitchen into a personal museum. By seeking balance and a cohesive color story, the sky is the limit with this technique.
