Ariana Grande's kitchen lighting taps into a retro trend – goodbye, recessed lighting, statement pendants are defining 2025
The mid-century modern design of the singer's kitchen incorporates natural materials and curves, and is grounded by a statement pendant light

Lighting might be the single most important interior design choice we make. It defines the space, adds shape, and sets the mood. In Ariana Grande's kitchen, a statement pendant grounds the entire room.
We caught a glimpse of the Wicked star's kitchen lighting in an Instagram post where it foregrounds her gray countertops and white bar stools. A large mid-century modern pendant light sits in the center of her large windows and white ceilings. Though trends have moved more towards recessed lighting, Ariana's pendant makes a strong case for returning to the tradition of statement lights in dining spaces. It brings interest, curves, and natural materials into the room grounding it with a cozy, retro feel.
Part of what makes Ariana's kitchen pendant lighting so striking is that it adds a visually interesting shape to the room. 'Layering your existing lighting with gentle feminine means you can add both charm and character to your interior,' says Georgia Metcalfe, interior design expert at French Bedroom. She explains: 'Curved edges will add visual interest and detail to any interior scheme.' This technique could be introduced in any home to make a room more intriguing.

This Goop-designed pendant includes an unlacquered brass frame with a linen shade. It has a french art deco feel and a vintage look that would stun in any home.
This stylish oblong paper lantern would look perfect in a mid-century modern kitchen. They are perfect for creating a soothing atmosphere.
This energy-saving light is the perfect complement to a modern mid-century room. The metal and hemp rope design is gorgeously textured.
This lighting trend also fits with the larger move in interior design towards using organic materials. 'Natural lighting fixtures add warmth and texture, creating an inviting atmosphere that complements modern and traditional interiors alike,' explains Shelley Cochrane, design expert at Furniture Village. She continues, 'Lightweight designs make installation and rearrangement effortless, allowing you to experiment with different looks and setups. As we go into the year our focus is on providing beautiful, functional lighting that resonates with the new trends and styles of today’s mindful consumers.' Ariana Grande's fixture is made of linen, but you could also use a fixture made of paper or another matte material.
To emulate the kitchen lighting trend, opt for a shape that contrasts with the rest of your room. For instance, all of the furniture in Ariana Grande's kitchen is circular, so she chose an angular light fixture to create an interesting change. It is also important to consider where the best place is to place your fixture. In Ariana's home, it looks stunning over the dining table.
Lighting has the power to change our spaces, and opting for a statement light chooses a bold and striking look.
